Thumbs sideways.

I don't think that babies need anything restrictive on their feet, but they are nice when your baby is learning to crawl around outside. Developmentally, bare feet are best. But they are super cute!

I'm sideways too...

They were nice when Bailey was learning to walk because they have good traction for wood/tile floors. But, I'm a "free tootsies" kinda girl - barefoot is the best!

Up, but I never had them with AJ cause I couldn't afford them at the time.

ETA: at home AJ always went barefoot, but when we went out he was in socks since I could afford those, but wanted them.

Thumbs sideways... I agree about the barefeet being better (except on hardwood floors like Becky said!) , but they are also good in the winter to add that extra layer of warmth!

Down. We live in Florida so shoes aren't a neccessity for warmth. Any shoes that my DS had would very quickly get holes worn in the tips of them from being drug when he crawled so we just gave up and freed the little piggies until he was walking on a regular basis.

Thumbs up as far as shoes go...they are way better for their feet than some of the *cuter* shoes, but barefeet are definitely better!
