for my HSG tomorrow!! AHH!!! Can anyone tell me what to expect? This is the last test I have left to do and I am praying that everything is normal. Is there alot of pain though? Do I need to bring anything? What kind of pain killers can I take before? Can I drive afterwards? Sorry for all the questions I am just really nervous...my Dr. hasnt really told me much about it so I dont know what to expect. I hope it goes well though! Wish me luck! I will say I am excited to finally have all of the tests finished and know exactly where we stand before we start injectables and IUI in September!

I had a SIS, which from everything I've read is more painful then an HSG. The meds (painkillers) they gave me were worse then the test tho- I felt horrid for a week. I wish I'd just used motrin or tylonol. Those will both be fine for you to use.

I would bring someone with to drive you. If you can bring DH, b/c if there is anything wrong you can discuss it right there, and it's nice to have someone to hold your hand. I would not have driven myself, but I'm an hour away, on the interstate from my DR.

Bring a full bottom pair of panties and very loose pants or a dress would be even better. You'll probably have lots of bloating and possibly fluid retention. The full panties are for the pad you'll need to wear home. if your DR's office doesn'ty have good ones you'll want to bring your own, super absorbant ones.

I had a fair amount of pain, but it was bearable. You're going to do great!

I hope everything is perfect!!!! Godd luck!!!

I don't have any recommendations about the HSG, but I wanted to let you know that I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and I'm sure everything will go well! Good luck!

I wanted to wish you luck and let you know you'll be in my thoughts. I have no clue what an HSG is. Can someone explain that to me? As, I'll probably be headed down that road sooner than I care to think about.

Thanks for all the info Cheryl!

And Jessica an HSG is a test that checks to see if you have any blockage or damage on your fallopian tubes or uterus. All I know right now, is that they use a dye and pass it through your tubes and uterus and then use some sort of U/S machine to watch/check for damage.
Ill let you know more after tomorrow!

Alicia, I just wanted to let you know that I had an HSG last month and it wasn't bad at all!! I took 1000 mg of Ibuprofen about 1 hour before when the procedure was scheduled to begin. It did seem to help with the discomfort.

When you first get up on the table, they insert a speculum, just like for a pap. Then, they insert a small catheter into your cervix. There is a slight amount of discomfort, but not too bad (you *may* feel a little more...I have had a vaginal birth before, so my cervix has been opened---still, I don't think it should be too bad!)

Anyways, then they leave that inserted and move you into position on the table under what looks like an x-ray machine (it's actually a floroscopy machine---like a moving xray). The dye is inserted and they watch it fill your uterus and then go into both tubes and out the end of the tubes. This part is actually really interesting. They should explain to you exactly what they are seeing. My doctor explained that the only time this usually hurts is if you have a blockage in one of the tubes.

Cheryl was definitely correct about bringing a pad. They will give you one, but it's like a diaper! I drove myself home without a problem. The worst part was the cramps for the rest of the day, but I did go straight to work without any issues.

Hope this helps! It wasn't nearly as bad as I had envisioned, so I hope you have a similar experience! I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!!
