I know that we all say that we won't be like our parents, but let's admit it...we sooooo are. What did you always think you would NEVER say or do to your kids that you do now or think that you will? What was/will be that "*gasp* I've turned into my mother/father!" moment? I'm sure that mine will have something to do with safety or sparing feelings. My parents outright lied about Santa when they knew that I knew because they wanted us to have more years of fun. My mom was fond of, "Because I said so!" I never thought that this would be a phrase in my vocabulary, but I've used it on DH already after I've explained and explained and explained and he still doesn't get it. I'll finally say, "Isn't it enough for you that I asked?" I've also learned with DH that rhetorical questions apparently DO have answers, so a closed-ended "Because I said so" just might creep in occasionally.

Oh, don't worry. I already hate myself for it.

"Because I said so" aslso was something my mom would say that I have said to my kiddos! LOL People also say that my mother and I sound just alike...so sometimes I just hear her in my voice when talking to my kids...if that makes sence! The only other thing I can think of at the moment is when I was young and chewed gum with my mouth open my mom would say..."if you dont close your mouth now I will take that gum and wrap it around your nose" Yes...weird...but it worked for whatever reason and I have cought myself saying that to my kids too! Im sure that there are more..but cant think of them right now...

My mother was SOOO bad to say "We'll see," which always meant no, but it shut us up for a little while! I'm sure that one will slip out once in a while!

"because i said so", "We'll see" and "you always have to get the last word in dont you"

those were the three phrases i always have told myself i will never say. i find myself wanting to say because i said so but i have never said it. and the "you always have to get the last word in dont you" she would always say when we had an argument. i never understood that one because isnt saying that actually getting in the last word? it still drives me up the wall when i think about it.

Oh, I heard "we'll see" a lot and I REALLY don't want to use it because I KNEW what it meant and I really wish my parents would have said, "No."

Kim, my parents never used that last line, but I remember hearing a friend's mom say it and I was TERRIFIED to go back over there!!! I never did!
