So, since I've been reading posts, I've read about Clomid and other meds and injections that some of you are taking. Today at work I talked with a friend who has been TTC for 2+ years. She has PCOS and endo. She said she tried Clomid and it gave her horrible cysts on her ovaries and was horrible! I had no idea that could happen! She has been on something else for years now and it hasn't worked. I feel so bad for her because I know she wants a baby so bad. I think she's had the PCOS and endo since she was around 17 and she's now 31. I was hoping to get some advice on other meds that might work or injections. I"m not so sure she is up for trying invetro yet. I told her about this site, so I hope she checks it out.

Thanks!

I have only tried clomid this past month. It isn't something most doctors let you take very long. If it doesn't work for me after the first couple months my doctor wants me to start u/s the week after I take it. They don't suggest it over 6 months. My doctor said if I go past the 1 year mark and the 6 months of clomid then I should see a fertility doctor.

A lot of people with PCOS are usually put on metformin. Oh and endo causes cysts - so if she thinks clomid caused her cysts it might have been partially cause of her endo.

hey girl... i'm on my second round of clomid. round one worked and i got a bfp after trying for 8 months, but sadly i m/c'd at 8 weeks. so i'm trying it again after taking a break for a cycle.

we have three children and can't really afford to put money into major medical assistance with getting pregnant. so my OBGYN told me that clomid might be a way to make it happen. it's our only shot. i have four more rounds of clomid, if this cycle doesn't work, and then we're back to ttc on our own.

clomid is a fertility drug that is pretty affordable and what it does is trick the body into thinking it is lacking estrogen. therefore it stimulates the ovaries to release more than one egg, thus increasing the chance of conception. there is a 20% increase in m/c's using clomid because it weakens the lining of the uterous. i haven't had many side effects to the drug, just some minor hot flashes. i think cysts are more rare in lower dosages and i'm on a low dosage. might be worth talking to your dr. about if you've been trying awhile. good luck!

Thanks! Once I find out about this months TTC, I'm going to schedule a doctor appointment and mention Clomid or something similar to speed up the process. Plus, if I"m not pregant, then I think something could be wrong because this 2 weeks late stuff is not going over well!

Thanks again.

I highly suggest she read The Infertility Cure, by Randine Lewis. It talks about alternatives to common fertility drugs. It has a section on PCOS, endo and clomid. It gives great info if she's open to chinese medicine.

I had the same problem with clomid. My regular OB/GYN didn't monitor my cycles with US... and my RE believes that I developed the huge cyst because my body didn't release the egg from my ovary from the previous cycle. They had upped the meds, which aggrevated it and made it grow bigger. My RE would have given me a trigger shot, which would have solved the cyst problem. I believe that is what Michelle is doing also. Clomid with trigger shots (with IUI).

I am on femera, an alternative to clomid. I did not respond the first cycle. I had a virus while taking it this cycle, so who knows if it will work.
