I have a quick question. Sorry for another posting so quickly!

If I'm using an OPK test and it is detecting my surge, then that means I am for sure ovulating, right? I've read some things here about PCOS. If the strips say that I'm ovulating, then I surely wouldn't have the PCOS issue, right?

I'm just trying to narrow down the reasons why I haven't conceived yet.

I do wonder if maybe I have a closed cervix though. I don't know a lot about it, but do know that after we "do the deed", it feels like all his little swimmer try to swim the WRONG direction if you know what I mean! We've tried to get in the best position so they will go the right way, but for some reason, no matter how long I lay still, when I get up and finally go the bathroom, it all comes back out!!! Makes me wonder if I do maybe have a closed cervix. What do you all think?

Let me see if I can help you out a bit... I'm not all that familiar with PCOS, so I can't really comment too confidently on that. As far as the OPKs, when you get a positive OPK (the test line is the same as or darker than the control line), it means you're body will generally be Oing within the next 12-36 hours. Some people never get a positive OPK yet still Ovulate, some people get several positives. Sometimes you can get a positive OPK where your body is gearing up to Ovulate, but for one reason or another (stress, illness, travel etc) it doesn't end up doing it. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think a positive OPK is any indication that you have or do not have PCOS. As far as I understand, someone can have PCOS and still Ovulate, but again, I'm not all that familiar with it.

I'm not sure about your cervix question. I know that your cervix changes position and how whether it's opened or closed depending on where you are in your cycle.

I have heard that when your guy ejaculates, it gives his swimmers a really good head start at where they need to be. The stuff that leaks out is generally the fluids and the "dud" swimmers. If you want, you can try to prop your butt up for 10-15 minutes after BDing, but some people tell you that's not necessary. It's your call, but the swimmers do have a pretty good head start... I hope that helps out a bit...

Cris. and I wanted to add a few things.

It's very possible to get a positive OPK and never ovulate. I know people who have PCOS have higher than normal LH levels (LH is what's detected in OPK's). I generally ovulate every month (not always though) and I've NEVER gotten a positive OPK.

The stuff "leaking out" after DTD is exactly what Chris said, it's the dud sperm and seminal fluid, that wouldn't get you pregnant anyway, so no need to worry about that. I usually prop my hips up for like 10 mins or so. You could also insert Instead Cups after BDing so you don't have to lay there all propped up.

I also wanted to say that it can take up to a year or more for a completely healthy couple to conceive. It's all about timing and odds. There's only about a 20% chance each month that you'll end up pregnant. My doctor told me that about 90% of couples are pregnant within the first year and 95% or so are pregnant within 18 months. That other 5% are the ones with the serious infertility issues. I know it sucks to hear all that, but really that's the only thing that keeps me sane.

I'm sorry I don't remember, Have you gone to your doctor about your problems yet?. It might be a good idea to get blood work and a U/S done on you and a SA done on your husband.

HTH!

People with PCOS can ovulate - it just takes longer than a "normal" cycle. Normal for most people isn't normal for people with PCOS. My SIL has PCOS and she has three kids (and one angel born at 18wks) that she never used medical assistance for. In my SIL's case, she gets AF something like every 3 months. The host of the NFP/FAM board (under Women's Health further down the main forum page) has PCOS and charts to TTC and to avoid with it. Many people with PCOS may have signs that they are about to ovulate and then not - like Cris explained. Your body warms up to ovulate and then something happens and you don't ovulate at that time.

I don't know anything about the cervix though.

So how do you "really" know if you ovulated or not if the OPK says you are about to? I guess that is what I don't understand. I'm not real in tune with my body (I've tried but I stink at trying to read it!) so I can't tell much.

The stuff that leaks out is A LOT!!! It seems like just about everything he should be trying to get up there isn't going at all! I wouldn't be worried if it just seemed like a little or if it were just sometimes. I'd say 90% of the time the majority of it comes back out.

I'll try the elevated hips thing. He tries to push it WAY up there when he "goes"

Also, my periods were always regular (until now). I don't really cramp or even feel ovulation coming on (I've tried to be watchful). My husband had his SA about 1-2 years ago and he had superswimmers. But now he is taking Lovistatin (spelling?) for his very very high cholesterol. They just upped his dosage this week too I wanted him to ask if it affects his lil swimmers, but he said he didn't ask because he only got to see the nurse. Grrrrrrrr I had asked the pharmacist once and he couldn't find anything about it effecting it, but I'm still worried.

Oh and I can't seem to take vitamins without them giving me migraines. I wish I could find something that works so I can get as healthy as I can to help. I plan to ask dr when I go.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions/comments! ***hugs****

yeah but even temps aren't 100%. I believe it was Toni (correct if I'm wrong hun) who's charts showed a clear bi-phasic pattern but her doc told her she wasn't oing.

Mucus! The more slippery you are feeling (EW consistency) is fertile.

In my case, my postive OPK's usually show on my last two-three days of slipperiness.

Yeah, April is right- temps are really helpful, but on a rare occasion, they can deceive you... Toni was the one who found out that even though her chart said she O'd, she really didn't... I would suggest talking to your Dr and they can address all your concerns including the medication that your DH is on and how it effects his swimmers.

Just to clarify, no I haven't gone the temp testing, just the OPK. I've written down when I notice a LOT of CM, but I'm not good at reading the consistency of it. I;ve read what each type means, but I can't tell egg whites from slippery or any of that! Like I said before, I'm not that in tune with my body and it doesn't talk to me much - unless I have a stomach ache which is ALL the time!!! My intestines hate me

Thanks again for your posts girls

I am nott very good at following temps. My temps are crazy and THAT'S WHAT is making me think I'm not Oing because they are just crazy. I didn't use OPKs this cycle and I got pissed so I stopped temping......

I just wanted to send good luck
