Hello ladies,
I have been a member of JM for a while now, just have not been active on the boards lately. Just a little about me.... Me and my husband have one daughter together, she is 6. We decieded last November we would TTC again. Well it just hasn't happend yet. I recently graduated from nursing school and am now a Registered Nurse. I started a position at my local hospital and now I have insurance (better than my husbands) so I think it is time to go see a doctor to see what we can do. My question is for those of you who have been to the doctor what should I expect on the first visit. I know every physician is different, and every woman is different, but just a general idea of what to expect. I figured a pelvic exam for sure, maybe some blood work? Thanks!

Welcome!

My DH and I also each have a 6 year old (from previous relationships)

We started TTC in October 2007 but also took a *break* in June, July and August....and prevented...so technically we are on cycle #10. But we started trying a year ago!

I'm not sure what's taking so long, either.

As far as your first doctor visit--are you talking about an RE or an OBGYN?

I had my first appt. with the RE last month and this is what happened at my first appt: he went over my temping charts, then I had a transvaginal u/s...I think the u/s was just lucky, though, because I just happened to be on CD14 and he wanted to see my ovaries to see if ovulation was gearing up or had happened. If I hadn't been in the middle of my cycle, I'm not sure he would have done that.

Then he looked all around with the u/s at my ovaries, and uterus.

Took a post-coital CM sample since DH and I had BD the night before.

Ordered 7 dpo bloodwork which checks progesterone level.

Ordered a semen analysis for my DH.

Then I started AF a couple weeks later and the RE ordered CD3 bloodwork.

I have an HSG scheduled today.

So---that's how my first month of being treated by an RE has gone!

Best of luck to you and WELCOME, this is a great board!

Welcome!! I am so glad to see a new face over here!!!!! I am so sorry it hasnt happened for you yet!

Anyways, I am Alicia (22) my DH is Mike (22), we have been TTC#1 for 17months now! YUCK! I am the co-host of this board along with the wonderful Lynda! So if you need anything at all let us know! Anyways, I have had all the testing you can imagine done, we have tried Clomid, trigger shots, IUI, Follistim Injections....quite a few things...

I would say your first visit really depends on where you are in your cycle. If you are on CD1-3 you could expect to do a full blood panel to check your LH, TSH, Estrogen...etc.... You may also have a transvaginal U/S and a pelvic exam too...it just depends on your Dr. I know my Dr. insisted on us doing a Semen Sample right away as it detects Male Factor Infetility and is the easiest to diagnose...If you are a little further in your cycle like CD5-10 they may have you do an HSG test too.

Have you been charting or anything to detect ovulation? If you have I would bring all your stuff with you to show your Dr. I was late in my cycle when I had my first consult so we just talked about our options and he looked over my charts and talked about what could be wrong and the different tests and treatment plans etc....

I hope this helps!!! If you have any more questions go ahead and PM me whenever you like!! I would love to share my experiences and help!

Good Luck and I cant wait to get to know you better!

BTW: Your DD is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the picture of her! Very Cute!

I contacted my OB in August and all we did was discuss my problems (I had a lot of spotting and no BFP in 8 months) and we ended up doing clomid. The first month on Clomid we couldn't try but last month we did and still got a BFN - Before we up my clomid dosage or do anythign else, I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow and then we will be going from there. If you had a yearly check up anytime recently, then they won't do another one most likely. I had mine in April we won't do another one until then at the latest. I know I had one when I went in with my BFP with AJ, but that might have just been cause I was a new patient.

Thnks everyone for your responses! I charted for a while, but then quit thinking it was adding to much stress to TTC. So I guess I could bring what charts I do have with me. I probably will call the doctor at the end of this week to try to get me an appointment atleast before Thanksgiving.
Thanks again ladies!
