So tomorrow morning DH and I have an appt. with the RE to come up with a "game-plan."

I will also have an u/s and if there are follicles big enough on my left ovary, they will trigger me. Woohoo! RE told us to BD tonight.

So...here's my question...I am not on any meds or anything...but I do O on my own every month. Are there sometimes follicles on BOTH ovaries? Or just one?

Also--what are the odds of having more than 1 follie? If there are more, does that increase my chance of twins? I mean, would the HCG make them both release, or just 1 of them?

Thanks!

The trigger shot is a straight shot of HCG, it'll make you release whatever follicles are there. Only the ones that are mature will be able to be fertilized. Your risks of twins will be increased if you have more than one.

For example, this cycle I had 5 follicles, only three were mature when I triggered so those are the only three that have the opportunity to get fertilized. We got warned about triplets.

April had good answers. I heard somewhere that you O on one side at a time, but I don't know how accurate that is.

At my u/s yesterday they saw a follicle on my right side, but they had a hard time finding the left ovary. So who knows.

I'm glad you asked that since I was wondering the same thing. I'm on my 2nd cycle of 50mg of Clomid and this time we are doing IUI. My first folliscan is Saturday and then 2nd on Sunday with more than likely a trigger that day as well with the IUI the next day. So, I was curious too if follies come from both sides. I was under the impression that the Clomid could create more mature follies than normal and that they could/would come from both with the trigger, but I wasn't sure. Good Luck to you!

I had 3 follicles on my right ovary (the ones that were mature) and 2 on the left ovary that weren't mature yet when I triggered. I took 50MG Clomid from CD 5-9.

The trigger shot itself is pretty simple. You'll get needles and a syringe from your doc. Then you'll get your prescription, I forgot what brand name mine was, but there were two bottles. One had just water in it and the other had the HCG in powder form. You put a needle on the syringe stick it in the water and draw up about 1.5cc, then you inject that into the powder. Shake that up, hold the bottle upside down and draw it all up into the syringe. Then you'll change the needle, flick it to make sure all the air bubbles are out and push up a little bit so you see a drop coming out of the top of the needle. Clean the area where you'll inject with alcohol (I had to inject mine into my butt, the area where you put your hands when you put them on your lower back, sometimes they tell you to inject it in your stomach though). Hold the skin taut, and inject the needle in fully, pull back, if you see blood then stop immediately and try the other side. Otherwise you should see some clear bubbles, once you see those inject the medicine in slowly and steadily. Rub the area for around a min, you might want to hold a warm compress there for a lil while as well. Be prepared for the area to be sore.

HTH!
