So how far would all ya'll go to have a baby?
Would you just try naturally?
With help from drugs?
IUI?

Adoption?
Where would you draw the line?

My limit is medications that we can afford (like clomid cause I get that for $9 a pop). Then just trying naturally and looking into adoption.
ETA: We can't do IUI or IVF because of cost. My insurance doesn't cover ANYTHING to do with infertility so we would be all out of pocket.

We'd go as far as IVF... since really that's our only option to get pregnant... We wouldn't adopt, do surrogacy or use donor eggs/sperm, none of that is for us.

fertility meds is all we can do. we can't afford the other assisted methods as IVF and IUI. our insurance doesn't cover it either. plus we have other children and we need to plan for their future.

We're willing to give all of the above a try as long as we still have the cash to pay for it. We don't plan on doing anything we can't afford and won't take out loans to cover things. I just switched my insurance plan at work, which should give us one shot at IVF next year if we need it.

Dh said he doesn't really want to do the shots and stuff. He thinks it will cost too much when we could be saving that money for adoption. I've tried Clomid so far and will schedule an HSG next month. I think I would try the IUI if it didn't cost much more than $2K. I dont think I'd do IVF or anything else like that.

We would do all of the above. I do believe that we would try adoption before donor eggs or sperm. (Although, I would like to feel all of those pregnancy feelings.)

We would probably do all of the above as long as we could afford it. We haven't really discussed using donor eggs and sperm, but I'm thinking that we'd rather adopt than go that route. I can't say for sure though!

Well we would do all of the above except donor eggs...sperm...etc.... I am not 100% sure if we would adopt either....but it is something that we would look into.

We've already decided that IUI is as far as we'll go medically before we check into adoption. We WOULD do IVF, if there was a guarantee....but there's not, so we won't. We did IUI this cycle, if it doesn't work then we'll do one more for sure, but may do one more after that as that will put us at 1 year TTC. Age is a factor for us since I'm already 41.
Purduegrad: Our IUI this cycle only cost us about $559 (unless they surprise us with something). Ours wasn't done at a specialists office, just our OB's office so it was set up with individual prices....$251 for each folliscan (we only needed 1), $96 for the HCG trigger, $32 for the sperm wash and $180 for the actual IUI. None of this was covered on insurance.

That's a good question April...I would go as far as IVF(possibly). It looks like your consult for IVF is on my B-Day, so I will send you a little prayer on that day. Right now, my insurance covers 50% and then I have about $2800 in FSA for 2009 and some left for this year. It's a really tough decision. I, which I'm guessing is true for you, never thought that I would be in a situation where I would have to make reproductive decisions like this. Let me know how it goes on Wednesday!!!

Actually Wednesday's appt is for a referral for IVF. Because we're going to a MTF (military treatment facility) for our IVF I need a referral from my PCM to get into the program. Thank you though!

Monetary requirements aside, we'd do IUI, surogacy, adoption. I would use donor eggs, but DH is against donor sperm. IVF sort of scares me and it almost seems TO ME like it might be messing too much with "God's plan". Although, God gave the scientists the knowledge FOR the IVF, so I'm just not sure.

If the military would pay for IVF then we would try that I'm sure if it got to that point. If that didn't work we'd go for adoption.
April...does Tricare cover IVF? Sorry if that's a little personal.

Colleen-- np it's not personal... There are a few MTF's that do discounted IVF for military members. Off the top of my head, there's on in Hawaii (Tripler), one in California (Balboa in San Diego), Walter Reed in Washington DC, Wilford Hall in San Antonio, Madigan in Washington, and Womack in North Carolina... I think thats it.
It's not free and each clinic has different prices and wait times. For example, we're going to Walter Reed, it's about $4400 for basic IVF and the wait time is UP TO 6 months. I know Wilford Hall is $3500 and UP TO a 18 Month wait. Tripler is $5600 and UP TO 24 month wait. Balboa is $3400 and a 18 month wait, Madigan is $5000 and no wait.

We are starting Clomid+ IUI this coming cycle...
We will move on to IVF after 3 cycles if the IUI doesn't work.
Would probably adopt if that didn't work.
