Yesterday (New Years Day) my parents invited my in-laws over to visit and have dinner. They all get along so great and we had a nice time just the 6 of us. Of course, my Mom and MIL couldn't have gotten together without asking about grandchildren.
The conversation started out as a joke wiht my MIL who "borrowed" a stuffed, animated elf 3 years ago and has yet to give him back. I sent out a ransom note in the beginning of December, but got a reply that our Elf wouldn't be returned until we produced a grandchild.

So, she brought it up again of course and said that I was now working on a time line and that her intern had locked our Elf in the office safe. I asked her what the time line was and she said December 2009.
So I delved a bit further into the topic and said, "well who is going to buy diapers and materninty clothes for this pregnancy and baby that you are both requesting?" They were the first things I could think of. My MIL's hand shot up in the air faster than you'd believe.

So I replied by saying, "well can I get that in writing?" And she (bless her heart) proceeded to write this: (And I'm copying it word for word minus the last names)
"I, being of sound mind this 1st day of January 2009 do hereby swear to my daughter0in0law Cristina in front of her parents, her father-in-law and husband that I will purchase diapers and maternity clothes for Cristina should she produce a grandchild within one years time (Expiration date 12/31/2009).
Signed,
Kathee.........."
Let me just tell you that I'm going to have that laminated and tuck it away for the day that I announce my pregnancy!

.... I'm going to hold her to her word too! DH said that he wouldn't be surprised if she actually did it too... he said she'll probably spoil our children rotten. It's probably the truth too.
So, now I'm going to be working her desire to have a grandchild to my advantage. If I have to hear the qestions over and over, I'm at least going to get something for it!

I can't wait to see just how much she's willing to give us before we can announce that we're having a baby!

Man, I love that woman!
