I am to go on tuesday for the dye test to check my tubes (sorry I don't have my papers in front of me to remember the technical names) and then on wednesday I go for the sono, where they fill up your uterus to look for fibroids??

Has anyone had these done?? What should I expect? Are they painful? One of them says to take motrin an hour before.

Well I should say I am SUPPOSE to go for these, depends on my blood work from today.

Im sure my levels are under 5. I had only spotting yesterday and this morning woke up to gushing blood and cramping so bad I feel like I may pass out at times. (I have a pretty high pain tolerance, I have given birth 2 times with no drugs, and gotten an epidural too late with 2 others)

Funny you should ask! I just had that done today!! It was an HSG and the radiologist at the hospital did it (not my OBGYN). I wasnt expecting that, but guess it makes sense. They took Xrays first and then they inserted the speculum and then a catheder thingy and then the dye. As soon as the dye started to go in I felt instant cramping. Kind of scared me at first cuz it was strong but it only lasted about 60 seconds!

Then while they had the speculum still in they had me lift my hips and twist to each side, as they took more xrays. That was tough since my legs were so high in the air!!

After that it felt like period cramping and that only lasted an hour. I went back to work at lunch since I felt better.

They give you a pad after the procedure. I have been bleeding a little all day and had some white stuff (which they said would happen).

Hope that helps!

Jenn ...
Had the HSG done last week.

I too was all worked up ...

It was painless and easy.
Just as described above but I had no cramping ...
I wore a panty-liner on the way home and "leaked" a little.
No blood just a little excess fluid.

I took 2 Tylenol about 30 minutes before the test.

All looked good ... the dye flowed through, filled the uterus,
which according to the radiologist "hangs to the right", and then through
the tubes and out into oblivion. I have a freshly paved highway he said!

Hang in there ... it really isn't bad at all!

Good Luck !

I just had the HSG today, too. I felt no pain, but a little bit of pressure from time to time. The whole procedure lasted about 15-20 minutes. My RE actually performed the procedure and I got to watch a screen the whole time to see what happened. It was neat watching the uterus and tubes fill with the dye. I had some mild cramping about an hour afterwards and that was it. I was really nervous leading up to the test, but it turned to to be no big deal. Good luck!

The lab here would not allow the test to be done if any bleeding was going on ... they were VERY accomodating with changing dates as AF changed her mind with how long she wanted to hang around !
