We got pregnant in March and lost about 4 days later. Its been almost a year since the loss and we are now in our 13th cycle. I've been putting off going to the RE (dont want to list the long story right now). I know I am covered but DH isnt, so that means about $300 out for a sperm analysis.
Do you think its necessary or can we forgo it? They are telling us its optional

Hmmm.... Since your DH isn't covered for testing, you might want to see what tests you can get done on yourself and see if anything comes from those results first. If everything checks out with you, then you can try the SA. That way, you're still moving forward and trying to figure out what is going on leaving the expensive stuff to be done only if necessary! Does that make any sense? (I hope so!)
I do want to wish you lots and lots of good luck though!!!

I don't know - we aren't covered for anything "infertility" wise so I am not sure if they would cover one for us either. You might see what you can find out about yourself first. If everything comes back normal for you, he might just have low sperm count or something. Good Luck!

If it comes to infertility testing for us, I'm going to insist on a SA before I go through a bunch of invasive tests and procedures. An SA is an easy procedure and I'd hate to go through a ton of tests only to do the SA last and discover that it was the root cause of any problems.
However, I'm hoping that we won't have to do any testing.

well we got pregnant in june of 08 and lost the baby in aug. we are still trying too. but my dr. said in one conversation that we can rule DH out as a problem cause of the conception. she said, well it would appear the little guys are getting to where they need to. i guess if there are multiple losses then they get concerned about the quality of the sperm. i think it might not be bad just to rule it out. sometimes it's both male and female issues. the female body has to be a well tuned hormone machine for a pregnancy to even occur. if hormones are outta whack, then there is some trouble. G/L and let us know what you decide.

I am a ttc6+ graduate and I just want to throw in my 2 cents worth...
I got pregnant 11 years ago with our son very quickly and then when we starting TTC#2, we got pregnant the first month (same dh)! Anyways, we lost #2 at 9w and then tried for 6 months before we went to my OBGYN. He did a Hsg on me and also ordered a SA on dh because he said there is no point doing a lot to me if it could be dh.
Long story short, he had a very low count and motility...and we soooooo surprised!!!! We were referred to a urologist that specializes in male infertility and were just starting to go that route when I got my BFP.
So, I would recommend that you at least have him checked out too. If it comes back fine, then that's one less thing to worry about! And if it is him, there is no point in you having to go through too much testing, etc.
Good luck!

We got pregnant in August and had a chemical pregnancy (m/c at 5 weeks). We assumed the fact we even got pregnant meant we had no MFI issues, but lo and behold, that was NOT the case. We found out in October that DH has very severe MFI - not even twenty sperms in a normal sample, and most aren't moving. The doctors don't know if the m/c in August was just a fluke or if it was related to DH's sperm, so they've recommended that we do IVF with ICSI/TESE where they will use sperm from his testicles to fertilize my egg (testicle sperm has been found to be much healthier than normal sperm in some men with severe MFI).
I guess my point is, it's possible to get pregnant and still have MFI, so I think it's still worth it to get an SA. Particulary before you go through a whole bunch of invasive tests and procedures, like Kimberley said.
Good luck!! And don't let me freak you out about the MFI - believe me, we're very much in the minority with our issues. Chances are your DH is just fine!

I say call around and check. Mike's SA was $50, and then the Dr. felt nice and waived the cost!
