Does anyone know anything about this? We won't see the OB/GYN again until the 16th. The motility and count (28) seemed fine, but the volume was on the high side (6), and morphology was 49% normal. I keep reading different stuff on morphology and can't figure out whether he's within normal range or not.

I wish I remembered DH's, but I don't...sorry.

But I looked up a few sites for you with tables and explanations. In the 3rd article, there's a pretty good explanation of everything and shows that the morphology is normal. (Semen can vary greatly from one sample to another.) Volume is a little high, but may just mean a lower concentration/ml. I couldn't tell if you meant that the motility is 28%...it COULD be a little low...but if you were talking about count, then it seems fine. Sorry. Motility, too, though, has a variance of "normal". Overall, it looks like everything is good...remember that it might be

Anyway, here are a couple of sites. I hope they help!!!

Thanks for the links! And no, 28 was the count, the motility is 55%, which is okay I think.

Hi there

The volume should be in the range of 1.5-5.0 ML...so the fact that his is more I have no idea if that's bad but I don't see why it would be.

Morphology should be greater than 30 and so your DH's is fine.

The motility should be greater than 50 and so your DH just made that and "might" be a little on the low side but your doc will tell you if that's the case or not. It's probably fine though since it is over 50.

Is 28 his total sperm count? Total sperm count should be in the range of 60-150 million. So if 28 is his total sperm count that may be low, but obviously don't take my word on it...my DH had an s/a done so I am going by the info they gave me on his as far as what "normal" ranges should be.

ETA that the "normal" ranges that my doc gave me when comparing DH's are apparantly a bit different than what the article Jamkc showed you...definitely make sure they tell you in every little detail his results and what they consider normal.

I would suggest just a regular daily vitamin for your DH, they work wonders!

Actually, the "total" count was pretty high, I think it was like 160 or so. But since his volume was high (6 ml), we figured out that that lowered his count per ml, which is the 28 (million). Thanks for the info!

Oh, and he is taking vitamins daily, he's very into taking supplements for fertility. A little *too* into it sometimes, the other day he had a whole handful of pills he took, and one of them was an L-lysine. I asked him why he was taking it, and he said, "Because it was there (in our drawer of pills)". I told him it was only for cold sores, and he said he figured it couldn't hurt to take it, whatever it was for. So he looked it up and sure enough, it was only good for cold sores. LOL Makes me want to monitor what he's taking to make sure he doesn't take anything that might do more harm than good.

I agree! I hope that this is a relief for you!

(And I totally understand monitoring what he takes/does...I've had to nag DH about his vitamins, then finally start standing over him to take them!!! Hey, it made a huge difference in all sorts of ways, so I'm not going to feel guilty about it!!! )
