Hi ladies...I am back. Had a great weekend, the race was so fun and it was nice to catch up with our friends.

I have to say, since I have been home things have been pretty terrible. My Grandfather has really taken a turn for the worst, and it is going to take a miracle for him to get well. I have been crying all day about it. My Mom (who is everyone's rock) called me tonight and was crying. She never cries, but it is her Dad afterall. Grandaddy keeps saying "I wanna go home". I just feel so guilty, like I should be doing something. When my Grandmother asks me questions, I just play dumb because I can't bear to tell her the truth. This is one of those times that I wish I weren't a nurse. He has no immune system from the Chemo and radiation, and now he has MRSA (methacillin resistant staphlococcus aureus). It is "the bad" one. I am so sad about all of this. He was supposed to get better. He was supposed to be on the golf course in a couple of months. I just don't understand.

My heart is totally breaking for my Grandmother. How do you live without someone who you have been married to for 55 years? I just don't know how you do it. I am so worried about how she will handle it if he doesn't make it.

I am in absolute agony, I can't quit crying. My poor DH is doing his best to hold me together. Please pray that God give us strength through this, and that his will be done with my Grandfather.

I am so sorry Ashley. I kinda know what you are going through. DH lost his last living grandfather the year before our wedding. It came pretty unexpectedly. We found out a couple months before that he had throat cancer and he was getting better. DH's grandmother has macular degeneration and is in her 80's. She is doing wonderfully considering she can't do much. She is still able to live on her own and everything.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers!

I am so so sorry that things are not going too well right now Ash. I can't imagine how hard this is for you and your family. Just know that as long as you all stick together, you will find a way to help your Grandfather and Grandmother. I'll be thinking of you a lot and saying a lot of prayers for you and your family. Please know that we are all here for you if you need us!

Thank you, ladies. I am off to the hospital to see if I can catch the doctor. I think it is about time that someone be honest with my Grandmother about his prognosis. I just can't be the one to tell her that this is really, really not looking good.

Well, the doctor gave us a bit of optimisim. His infection is not systemic and also not in his lungs. He doesn't have pneumonia. Now, don't get me wrong, he is still very very sick, but hopefully we will start to see some improvements this week.

Not good news....just as I was leaving this evening, my grandfather coded. I ran back to the ICU and had to stop them from putting him on a ventilator. It was horrible to have to do that, but I know that is what he would have wanted. I felt like I was in a movie the way it happened. They will be transferring him to hospice tomorrow. We decided on comfort measures only.

Well, this is like the rollercoaster that never ends. This morning he was awake, alert, and talking to us. He told his doctor that he wanted to fight to get better. My grandmother made the decision to resume all treatments. This has truly been a miracle because everyone has told us that he would have probably died overnight.
