I guess I never really thought about this until this cycle because my timing got messed up.....but is there a "typical" time of the day ovulation occurs? I know OPKs recommend testing at 2pm because the LH surge comes in the afternoon, I wonder if ovulation is the same?

I ask because....I've tried to time BD as the day before and day of O....if I happened to ONLY BD on the day of O, since we typically BD at bedtime, if O had happened the morning of that day, our chances wouldn't be that great. (I know the egg lives for a while, but it would still be BD after O). I'm thinking if I could only BD one day around O time, it would probably be best to be the night before I got CH.

I have no idea... I've wondered the same thing, but I can almost bet that we all ovulate at different times of the day due to all kinds of factors..

Yeah I'm sure. It just got me thinking that timing BD on O night probably isn't the ideal.

Oh I hear ya- that's when we always BD as well (at least around O'ing).. The day before O would definitely be ideal... probably the 2 days prior to O would be the absolute best.

I often wondered that myself, but the way I figure, people don't always O at the same time of day. I agree that ideally you'd want to BD 2 days before and the day before O to make sure there's swimmers there waiting, but I bet that there have been women who have BD'ed the night of O day and still gotten pregnant!

LOL Let's just say we weren't going to let any opportunity by this cycle.

LOL, I have to agree with Christine about you being totally covered, Jackie!

Christine, I think we all probably O at all different times. Who knows though. I always try to make sure we BD on the first peak day and the day after. This cycle though, I am wanting to start BDing every other night (starting tonight) until our peak and then everday of peak and the day after.

If I went off my ovulation pains, I O anywhere between 10-noon in the morning and 2-10 in the afternoon/evening. This month I had REALLY heavy duty O pains around 11:30pm. I did figure out that if I took my clomid later in the day, my O pains came later in the day.

I'm sure I read something about this somewhere, but do you think I can remember where? Nope. I think I O overnight. I don't know why it's just a feeling.

here is what i read, and i asked my OB cause it seemed wrong to me, but she confirmed it was true. it is necessary to BD before you O, and MOST viable pregnancies occur that way. It takes some absolutely unbelievably long time for sperm to get to where they need to go. when you O, your egg begins the process of disintegration right away. the longer it goes unfertilized, the weaker the egg becomes. so it's best to have sperm waiting so when the egg releases at it's fullest strength, the sperm will fertilize it immediatly. she told me alot of women can get pregnant BDing on the day of O, but it could be a weaker fertilization, and COULD result in a m/c. now there are women who defeat the odds, but odds are better if the sperm is waiting for the egg.

hope that helps.

I have a friend that swears by BDing the night of the Positive OPK and the 4 days following it.
