MIL gave me SOOO many plans like 2 years ago, so I've really just started. But I'm really excited about it this year. I probably can't remember half of what she brought me (she has a huge garden), but some of the things that came back last year are

Tons of daylillies
A few hostas
A gorgeous bleeding heart
Brown eyed susans
Shasta Daisies
Campanulas
Blue Ajuga
2 poppys
Pulmonaria

Plus I bought some things on my own, and always buy annuals too. I'm so excited about it this year.

I would say I have a green thumb. Unfortunately, I don't have tons of time for it, so I have to keep it to low maintanence plants. I do have a spectacular herb garden, that plays right into both hobbies of gardening and cooking. In there, I have:

chive
cliantro
marjoram
thyme (2 types)
oregano
basil
Chocolate Mint
tarragon

Is there an in between? I'm not an expert and I can really only do the basics. I don't do as many flower plants (I get the low-maintenance ones that just need sun and some water), but I do plant a lot of veggies. I do them in pots so that they are easier for me to maintain and my Mom and MIL help a lot. I don't quite know what I'm doing wrong since I really don't get anything edible until September or October when it starts getting cold!I end up bringing the plants inside to I can keep them alive! LOL

I generally do:
Tomatoes (beefsteak and Grape)
Peppers (red and green sweet bells)
and this year I want to try cukes and radishes.

I don't do food plants, only flower plants!

I have a bunch of lilies (white and a maroon color), mini lilacs, regular lilacs, lots of rhododendrons, purple sage, lavender that smells amaaaazing, and some other lower maintenance plants like daffodils, tulips (which never bloom anymore), crocus, and iris's.

When the weather breaks, I plant my bulbs (which I have to dig out every year) which are orchids and canna lilies.

Edit- how could I forget the best plants?? We have 3 butterfly bushes that we cut down every year and they will eventually get to 7 feet by summer. They have been amazing the last few years, and reach our gutters when it's time for them to bloom! We should start a "brag" thread for our gardens and flower gardens where we can share pics!

I like the idea of a garden brag thing, but I'll have to wait for mine... we still have several inches of snow on our yard! LOL My tulips should be coming through, but they can't find the light of day through the snow!

Oh YUCK to the snow! I don't have anything but a few luck crocuses anyway at the moment. I have some pics of things from last year, but as the season progresses, I think it would be fun to share!

I'd loooove to share pics of my stuff (assuming they come back this year) and see everyone elses!

I've thought about trying a few food plants too. We'll see how much time I have this year.

Cris I'm sorry you still have snow! We did until maybe 3 weekends ago and I'm so exciting I can finally see our yard again. Hope it warms up for you soon!

I LOVE to plant flowers in the garden, but I have a severe skin allergy to poison Ivy if I am within a mile range of it I end up broken out for months at a time. Last year i had to have 5 steroid shots to get rid of it. I ended up with it for 4 months. I thought I was safe to go out this last weekend and plant my lilies....I was wrong I have it AGAIN. So my Dr. has told me to stay out of the yard forever!!!

I am just starting out (we moved in the dead heat of the summer so we couldn't plant anything until the following year and then we planted a few trees (loquats and a couple palms). Last year I planeted a firecracker plant (it isn't doing so well), an umbrella plant (it is very happy), a bunch of ferns and stuff like that around my trees and a couple lillies. The lillies are getting ready to bloom I think.

This past week I planted 3 hibiscus' and one of them just had a flower open today! It is like being a proud mommy when your baby rolls over or something. I would like to do some more gardening this year but not sure it will work out money wise. I am also starting a small indoor herb garden (from seeds). We have baby basil and cilantro right now. If we can manage it with the heat I want to plant tomatoes.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm a green thumb - but I do live in Iowa and pretty much everything I planted is growing in the mucho-fertile soil. I have:

daylillies
Apeldoorn tulips
purple tulips
Hyacinth
Fireflly crocus
daffodils
Rip Van Winkle daffodils
Greenland tulips
Texas Flaming Parrot tulips
Stargazer lillies
Astilbe

Can you tell I like tulips? The only ones that have bloomed so far are my crocuses, but they're all definitely growing. I am new to this as well.

Question: do I have to dig the bulbs up every year?

Also, I love the idea for a thread to share our photos. I vote yes!
