I saw Cris posting about this and had a question for you all. Who would my dh have to go to get a s/a? Also does he have to be referred in order to get this done?

I know in Canada he would need to be referred for an SA. I'm not sure about the US as your health care system is so different.

Your Dr can prescribe it.... and yes you need an order for it, because they (the lab and the insurance company) need to know why they are doing it. Hope this helps

My Dr wrote the order up for my DH and said that should be fine, but in case the insurance company gives us any trouble, I should have DH's primary care Dr call my OBGYN and he'd tell the primary guy to order it for DH!

Because I haven't started fully seeing anyone for ttc, i'll try going through his primary doctor. Is the testing expensive? I feel so clueless about it lol.

i think if you're willing to pay for it on your own, you can get one done here and not have a dr's referral. actually i'm sure of that... G/L i hope you get results that everything is fine!!!

The costs really fluctuate from state to state and facility to facility. When we had our first basic s/a done, it was $63. (Full cost) Now, we have our orders to get a more detailed one done at my RE's hospital, and the break down on that puts it over $600. I've heard ladies getting the basic one done and it being $200+ though, so you just might want to call the lab you will have it done at and see what their cost is.

I'm on month 5, but I have a feeling that I'm going to be on month 6 soon, and since my cycles are 2 months long each...I hope you dont mind if I drop in here...
Anyway, my DH did an S/A last cycle - he doesnt have health insurance (long story - he will in 2010)...but because of that the S/A wasn't covered...it cost exactly $286...which was pretty reasonable...it was prescribed by my OBGYN, and they needed that prescription in order to do it...
I'll find out the exact results on Wednesday when I go to the DR, but I am pretty sure they did the basic count, motility, morphology on it...
GL!!
