S/A timing question...

Please forgive my ignorance about this stuff

With the SA, I know he'll have to abstain for 48 hours before DH gives the sample, but my Dr also said that he'll have to had an ejaculation with in 5 days. Is that right?

I'd like to get his SA done asap so we can get the results. I need help with the timing. Since I have AF and DH won't come near me (can't say I blame him), should he "take care of his own business" like Monday, then abstain for 2-3 days and then do his thing with the SA cup? Would that work? Or is it better that we wait until AF is gone and actually DTD, abstain and then do the SA?

Sorry about the dumb questions. I think that's the last of them for a while! (I hope so anyhow!)

I don't think it would matter if you DTD or if he went to self serve. I can't imagine that it would make that much of a difference. But I'm no expert.

Don't worry about the questions - I'm enjoying them, I'll be much better prepared when it's my turn.

I agree that I can't see how it would matter HOW it happened! Then again, I've never been through it.

I also agree that I'm learning so much from you ladies, even though I'm sorry your journey has taken you here.

I was in the middle of AF when my DH did the SA......

He did it himself on Monday, then he did it for the lab on THursday...my lab said to do it, then do it 3 days later for the lab - so everything is fresh...

As for the first one, it doesn't matter how you do it

It doesn't really matter how it's done... as long as he doesn't go longer than 5 days. He also has to obstain for a minimum of 48 hours before he give a sample for them to get an accurate count. Sooo it really doesn't matter either way... as long as he follows those guidelines.

Tony was told to abstain 3 days prior to the SA (he has to do it at the fertility clinic cause they want it nice and fresh even though we live 20ish mins from the clinic on a bad traffic day). For Tony it is going to work out right about the time we have to start the marathon. Poor Tony. He might get a day off before we have to start.

Very cool... Thanks for the info ladies! I think I'll have him do his thing tomorrow (Tuesday) and then he'll do it for Friday so we can "drop off the goods" as he likes to put it! LOL

He is fine to handle it himself....also my RE says getting the Analysis done within as close to 48 hours as possible is best!! So somewhere between 48 and 72 is what I would shoot for!! Good Luck!
