So I went to my doctor because my cycles are so long and irregular 39-60 days, hoping to have some hormone testing done and find out whether I am ovulating. She said she would check some basic things like thyroid and LH, but wouldn't recommend anything more invasive until we have been trying for at least a year. We have been trying for 8 months and I am getting so frustrated. She said if I am not prego in a year then I should go to the OBGYN and have some of the hormone testing done, with mabye a dye test where they check your tubes and then at that point I could maybe start Clomid if necessary.

Until then just keep trying and charting, she said. But I am getting so tired of waiting. Have you guys experienced this, or was your doctor wiling to start testing before I year. I am not sure if I should just go to the OB now, or if I really need to just be patient.

Everybody I talked to said I had to wait the full year. Sorry--but you only have a few more months--I know it totally sucks trying to be patient, especially when you think something might be going wrong. Hopefully the LH test will tell you what you need to know. Good luck!

My doctor has been insisting I wait for a year also, we are now on month 11. AF is due on Friday. I had some irregular bleeding last month so the doc actually did a pap smear and also ultrasound to see if anything is found there. I am anxiously awaiting the results. I mentioned Clomid to him but he said no way is that something he would recommend. AAARRRGGGHHH.... I will have to wait and see, only one more cycle for me until I hit the year mark.

I have also heard a year but I'm fairly confident that my doc has ni idea which month I am on so I may bend the truth a little bit next time I go in....

My OBGYN started testing around our 8th month. He said it was obvious i'm not "working" so why wait. I'll go again next week for MORE tests, you'll start to feel like a pin cushion, but it's worth it if you can get some questions answered. I would reccomend you go to your OB - they might be willing to start earlier.

I agree...try your OB again. My docs have had to run those tests since I was a teenager, so I already had something to tell docs when we had started trying. Mine wouldn't do anything after a year specifically for TTC, but ended up having to run the tests, anyway, for some other problems. (But, as I've said many times, my docs suck.) I DID call another doc who said that 6 months was actually a while to wait because there's usually a reason behind taking as long as a year. He said that most will wait a year because healthy couples will eventually conceive, but there may be something else going on that's preventing it. For example, your DH may have an erratic sperm count from one day to the next, you may be putting something in your body over a given couple of months that's affecting it, and so on. He said that it usually works itself out, but if he can figure it out more quickly, then it's solved more quickly and you won't usually fall into the TTC for a year category.

Did that make sense?

At any rate, I would talk to your OB. I would think that she would at least want to get your cycles regulated to get you pointed in the right direction...

I'm so sorry that it's so frustrating. 8 months is certainly a long time...

Good luck and please keep us updated!!!
