Alright, for those of you who know me, here is the update on me. MXdad and I are doing IVF w/ICSI in June. The ICSI is because MXdad's sperm failed the hamster egg penetration test. This answered a lot of questions for us and made us wonder why they didn't have us do this test as part of the initial sperm analysis to begin with. If I had not been insistent on moving onto IVF (because I had this feeling nothing else would work) instead of doing IUI and injectables, we definitely would have wasted money on those procedures because of a lack of an extra $275 hamster test. Silly, I know! So ladies, if your husband's SA came out normal, great even, his sperm still may not be penetrating eggs very well. Something to think about. Anyway, it's kind of frustrating when we could have known this clear back in October. So IVF w/ICSI in June. It's so nerve wracking. I haven't told anyone. I really don't want twins. Too much work, but I guess we'll see what Heavenly Father has in store for us. I hope it includes at least one baby. I hope you are all doing well and thanks for listening to me ramble.

Good Luck! I hope this works for you.
If you want some good news - someone from this board a few months ago did the same IVF procedures you are headed for and ended up with a BFP with one bean.

Good Luck! I'm doing IVF w/ ICSI right now (egg retrieval is tomorrow). It's really not bad.. just a lot of shots and monitoring.. If you really don't want twins, then only put back one embryo.. your chances aren't much higher with putting back two anyway.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate the encouragement. April, good luck I hope you get your baby. My doc. told me at my clinic a single bean is only a 40% chance, while two is a 60% chance of getting preggo with a 38% chance of having twins.

see I would def implant to with those odds then! I *might* put back 3 but it'll depend on the egg quality.
ETA: Thanks for the well wishes! Same to you!

We did IVF with ICSI in Feb... transferred 2 A/A+ embies and got one sticky bean I would have been delighted with twins but a singleton pregnancy has its benefits... I'm a big believer that whatever's going to happen is going to happen and everything is in God's hands anyway, so just go with what feels right to you. If you're only meant to have one this time, God will only give you one. Good luck!!

Good luck! It's kind of scary that they don't test for this if it's serious. how did you get them to test for it? how common is it?

Yarngirl, I have no idea how common this condition is. The test is called a Hamster Assay and at my clinic they administer it before you do IVF in order to know whether they have to perform ICSI along with IVF. A normal sperm analysis at my clinic is $130, with the hamster assay it cost $400. I'm sure if we would have insisted on the hamster assay being included in the original analysis they would have done it. I'm not sure what your story is, but I wish you luck!
