Hi ladies, I just wanted to let you know that I'm back in this group now. You can scratch my name off of the BFP list if you like. We had a molar pregnancy. The baby died at about 5 weeks and we didn't know it until 10 weeks. The placenta was still growing, which obviously creates a health problem, so I had a D&C on Friday. We actually had the ultimate range of emotions that day. We were supposed to see our baby on the first ultrasound, instead we got this news. I'm pretty bummed out about the loss, and DH is really anxious about my health now. I have to go in for blood work the next 6 months or more, and we can't start trying to conceive again for at least 6 months. The thing I'm upset most about this situation, is that they want me to go on some type of contraceptive again. I really don't want to do this, as it took almost a whole year for the birth control pills to get out of my system and to get normal, regular cycles.
Anyways, just thought I would re-introduce myself, as there are probably some new faces here. I'm Ashley (26) and DH is Mark (26). We've been trying for a baby since August 2008.
Update: The hospital just called me to schedule bloodwork tomorrow. I was very confused because we already had an appointment set up for next Tuesday. It turns out it was a complete molar pregnancy. There was never a baby. This just breaks my heart. And now not only are the health risks even greater for me, but we will more than likely have to postpone TTC for a year.

I am so sorry to hear that. Big hugs!
Can you guys use a barrier method instead of hormone birth control?

I so sorry for your loss Ashley. I hope that you are healing (both mentally and physically).
Can I ask why the Dr. said to wait 6 months to TTC again? Most Drs. tell you to wait until your first period or for 3 months. I'm sorry to be nosy.

I'm sorry....I'm Lee Ann and I'm new to this group. You could always try NFP. Shawna, the host of that board, is a really nice & knowledgeable person when it comes to natural family planning.

I am so sorry. I also suggest looking into NFP. I used it successfully for 10 months to avoid between my son and beginning TTC #2.

I'm so sorry for your loss!! We are all here for you whenever you need to talk. I'm so sorry that you have to go through all this, and having to wait even longer must be very difficult for you and your DH. I hope you are doing well and get to feeling much better soon.

We have to wait for 6 months because with a molar pregnancy, the placenta grows with a cancer-like tissue. It's completely benign, but they have to make sure they got every little cell out of me with the D&C. If they missed a piece, it will start to duplicate and continue to grow, and could very well turn into cancer, and possibly move out of the uterus and into other parts of the body. Over the course of the next 6 months, I'll be going in for blood work so that they can monitor my levels to make sure it isn't growing anymore. So they say not to TTC for 6 months, because, what would happen if we got pregnant and then the tissue started growing. 1.) We would have to terminate that pregnancy to get the tissue out, 2.) the tissue would take over and kill the next baby too, or 3.) we would have to wait it out and hope everything went well with the pregnancy and that the "cancer" tissue wouldn't have spread to other parts of my body. Ugh. In a word, it's complicated.
We actually were using NFP before when we were trying - the Creighton model - checking cervical mucus. But since my cycles are never very regular, it's a little difficult for me to tell when I'm ovulating, except after the fact. It works, but I have to temp too to keep myself from going crazy throughout the month. So we will be using that, but of course hospitals never really believe in NFP, so they are highly recommending using some sort of b/c. I've got a message into our NFP counselor to get her opinion. So we'll make the best decision at that time.
Anyways, a long answer. But that's why.

I am so sorry. I would still check out NFP - you can avoid without going on the pill. I did it for almost a year before we began trying (and successfully used FAM for the months between having my son and beginning NFP). That way when you can try again you won't have to worry about coming off the pill and getting regular. PM me if you have questions or I can direct you to Shawna if I don't know the answer.

I'm so, so sorry! I hope they got it all and that you will stay healthy and strong through this whole ordeal. I agree with Lynda, make sure to take all the time you need to heal, both emotionally and physically. And whenever you need to talk or just let it out, we're here!!! I am sending you big hugs and many happy and healthy vibes!
