I am home from the HSG. It wasn't so bad. I am in more pain now than I was during. Mega cramping, pain, and spotting. All is okay unless I pass clots and then I need to call my OB. They said that the dye flowed through the way they wanted it to and my tubes were clear. I am to call the OB Monday to see if they got the report and what it says.

Yeah - but when they told me it flowed through like they wanted it to I thought to myself - "Then what is keeping us from getting pregnant!". Oh and the tech told me that most people have told her the pain is about as bad as when they have their periods and I thought about you Jackie since yours are so bad for you. Mine personally was worse than my periods after a little while. But I layed horizontal for 3 hours and have been feeling pretty good since.

Yeah!!! I may be having one soon so I'm glad it wasn't too too horribly bad. Do you know if they used water or oil based dye? I've been reading articles on pubmed that show that an oil based dye can increase the chances of pregnany by 44% for the next cycle. Apparently the dye binds with "microphages" or something like that and makes you more fertile.

I've read that most dye's are water based due to the high cost of oil-based. And because the relationship between the two is either unknown among physicians or they shrug it off.

I'm glad that you were able to get that done, and that your tubes were clear. I pray that you don't have anymore pain

Awww, I'm sorry it hurt... My AF time is very bad, but not the menstrual cramps- just that other pain, which must be from endo. I get usual cramps, but nothing I can't handle and the HSG didn't cause cramps any worse than those. Thanks for thinking of me!

My HSG was painful, but mostly because they couldn't get that darn speculum in!!! They had to use a different one! So I went through that twice.

I don't know if it was water or oil based. I was told it should leak throughout the day but I wouldn't know - I am also spotting. With that info I am hoping oil based - I could use all the help I can get at this point. TMI warning - I went to the restroom early and saw something - looked like little balls of something sitting in the toilet - it could have been small clots or I guess oil based dye (since oil and water don't mix - LOL). I brushed it off and didn't call my OB cause I didn't think they were clots - too small in my experience.

here is an article that I found just googling it:

Alabama Fertility Update: Does a hysterosalpingogram make you more fertile?

Best wishes for your upcoming cycle.

Edit: I was just looking at his references and he used some pubmed articles in there.
