Tubes are clear. No blockages. Now what......

We have two choices if this cycle is a bust.

1. We do 3 more cycles of clomid and then get referred to an RE. He won't up my dosage because I am already ovulating on 50mg - even when I am willing to take the higher chance of multiples.

2. We get referred to an RE now.

For option 2 I need to spend a good amount of time on the phone with the insurance company to find out what they will and will not cover with an RE. I already know they won't cover meds (clomid isn't covered) but if the RE has more tests - would they continue to cover them is the question.

I also have a third option - to switch OB's. I don't know if any of you remember, but my regular OB retired in November (right when I got my diagnosis of PCOS) and since have used the doctor that took over his practice. He is nice and all but extremely conservative. Maybe that is because he is fairly new/young. I don't know. Technically I have already done 7 cycles on 50mg of clomid (with a one month break between the 2nd and 3rd cycles).

Feel free to give me your opionions. DH and I have a lot of discussing to do about this and I need to get going to take AJ out for a playdate with friends. I should be ovulating this week/weekend or early next week too.

First I have to say - I love your new siggy!

Why not confirm with your insurance company now what they cover before you make a choice? If they cover some of the tests you may as well see an RE now.

Good luck!

I would also look forward to see what the insurance will cover with the RE. Unfortunately, I've read in many cases that if Clomid isn't successful in the first 3 months, the chance of it being successful at all will only decrease. (if you aren't being monitored or doing IUI or something I'm sure). Everyone's different, but just putting that out there.

I know that the "all clear" doesn't give you any answers, but try to be relieved that all is well in there. I was completely devastated when I learned I have a blocked up tube, and I don't wish that pain on anyone. I would recommend moving on to an RE, only because in my experience (my first RE appt. was March 17 and have not yet undergone any meds or treatments since), it takes some time to go through all the testing and hoops with the new doctor before you can start treatments.

I completely agree with the other gals. I would keep going until the process is underway with the RE and your insurance gives you the ok. And the bright side is there is no physical problems in there! That's definitly a good start, even though sometimes it may seem like that would have been easier, at least having an answer. Good luck on whatever you decide!

Thanks Kimberley - I made that one from a pic a couple weekends ago and a kit from the designer I am a CT for.

Thanks for all of your opinions. DH and I are going to discuss it all tonight. I don't know what we will do - guess it depends on what the insurance says.

i gotta agree - see what is covered. that might help you make your decision. hopefully it will. I'm only gonna add, that my dr. told me 6 rounds of clomid is all that should be taken. i know you took a break from it, but i don't think you want to be on clomid much longer. maybe a different fertility drug??? i'm not sure about the others. KUP on your insurance!! my insurance covers NOTHING!!!! stinks... GL

If I were you, I'd probably call my insurance company and get the information about what would be covered and what wouldn't before I make a decision. In all likelihood, I would probably end up heading to the RE cause like Jackie said, it can take several weeks and months to get going with things. I'm sure that you and your DH will make the right decision for you!

You live in the outskirts of houston, right....east side? There are some really good doctors up in that area. I grew up in Lake Jackson....there is a fertility clinic in Webster.....Infertility Specialists Houston Texas
I interviewed a couple of fertility clinics in houston (just in case I have to go that route) and I loved this place, but they are extremely expensive compared to other clinics. I think there is an initial $100 consultation fee....but you might get more help out of them. Just a suggestion...it wouldn't hurt to call.

LOL - I live like 20 mins from Webster - LOL. I knew about that one (a friend of mine recommended Dr. Schnell) - there is also another one off 45 about 15-20 mins from me run by UTMB (and that is where DH had his SA done at) so I need to look into it. Tomorrow is my day to call the insurance - if they won't cover anything I need to call the different clinics and see what their non-insurance prices are and if they will let us do a payment plan if necessary. Then choose. And I am crossing my fingers I won't need the information I get tomorrow!

I interviewed three clinics, which I did three: Sonja Kristianson, Infertility Specialists, and the other was Houston IVF .... they all gave me prices based on out of pocket, no insurance because most insurances will not cover any fertility treatment and it is not mandated by law in Texas.

I only did this really because if I have to do fertility treatments, I WANT to only do it once and have twins, so I wanted a clinic that has no ethical problems with that or the doctor is not going to shoot me down for wanting that.

good luck....keep us (or me) updated!
