It is as clear as mud.....
If it is labeled as infertility - NOTHING is covered. Meds, etc.
If it is labeled reproduction - part is covered. Co pay is the same as with my OB's office. Tests in office are subject to the deductible. All my tests out of the OB's office have been 100% covered.
Sooooo - we have to decide what to do still. DH is thinking maybe I should go back on the pill for a month or two because we got pregnant with AJ the first month off the pill. I really don't want to do that (partially religious reasons and partially what the hormones do to me and the complaining I got from DH - it zapped my want to DTD).
Trying to think of what a RE might do first I am trying to find out prices out of pocket, so my next calls will be to local RE offices to find out what trigger shots and IUI's will cost.

I don't know about the meds, but I will tell you the prices I got at the fertility clinics in houston:
Infertility specialists in Webster - $800 per cycle IUI / no meds included, sperm wash not included
Sonja Kristianson - $450 IUI + sperm wash (one time $300 consulting fee)
Houston IVF (Dr. Jimmy Gill) - $500 single IUI / $800 double IUI (double means you get IUI and then two days later they give you another, so it increases your chances). (Also one time fee of $100 consulting).
I don't know if any of that helps, but just so you know what's out there.

Thanks Lee Ann - that is handy info. IUI is less than what I was figuring but that is minus meds too. Looks like my phone doesn't want me to call the RE - battery dying even though it has been on the charger until a couple hours ago.

I hope you get some answers from the RE's office soon. In my first appointment at my RE, they gave me a sheet of all of the possible procedures (well most of them) and the diagnosis code they use no matter what. They are all "infertility", even the office visits..

That really sucks, I'm so sorry...
I can't remember what my insurance covered but I am tempted to look at it now.

IUI's were alot cheaper than I thought they'd be too. But if you do ovulate you can do a non-medicated cycle. The ob/gyn I go to up here (is also a fertility specialist) and she told me that they have had pretty good results with non-medicated IUI's.
The only thing is....in my opinion, if you are going to pay the money for the IUI, you might as well try medicated and get a couple eggs out there in hopes that one will get fertilized.

Well this can be a tricky thing. Ask any of the offices if they can and would code for reproduction. Some will some won't. Also for me with an IUI and injectables and a trigger I paid 1600 total for EVERYTHING which is pretty good. With PCOS they will probably recommend some sort of medication and a trigger to guarantee the strongest possible ovulation. Personally I loved being on injectables with a trigger and IUI it was very smooth and easy! If you have any more questions let me know. Good luck!!!!

That sucks that they won't cover anything. I did some research on IUI's here and they were a lot less than what I thought.

I hope that you can figure out something so that you won't have to pay for a lot out of pocket... I'd definitely ask if the Drs can code things differently

Tony isn't really up for the RE route - so I guess we are going with the OB for a little while longer. Possibly no medical assistance. We still haven't nailed anything down - I hope I am pregnant and don't have to worry about this. We got into a big fight this evening over the decision.

I'm so sorry to hear that this decision is so hard on you and your DH. TTC sure isn't easy, especially when you don't quite see things eye to eye. I hope you will be able to find a compromise that you can both be happy with. Lots of

It sounds like you could use some more Hopefully Tony will just need some more time to get used to the idea of the RE....

It is the cost that is putting Tony off - we just don't have a lot of money laying around. I think we will do a couple months with the OB and then move on to the RE. IF the RE is just a copay for consults or whatever then it is $40 but if it is any more than that it will really hurt. And AJ has to go see an allergist this month too and since it is a specialist it is another $40 (copay for specialists, our normal copay is $20).

I hear ya. Depending on what happens in the next month I may switch insurances. My office is technically considered part of the University, so I can choose from 5 different plans/insurance carriers. There is FirstCare insurance that I found pays 50% of infertility costs (but they are limited coverage area in Texas)....right now with BCBS, nothing is covered. We should have a diagnosis soon....and I have to submit my enrollment ppwrk by July 31.
