Okay, I have this theory, but I don't really have much evidence to back it up. When I was on clomid, my OPK's were really dark when they were dark. I could get a test that was as dark or darker than the control line, but the last couple of months off the clomid my OPK's don't get as dark - just a thin dark line off to the left side of the test line that is as dark or darker than the control line. But it isn't all the way accross like when I was on clomid. I do have PCOS (cysts on my ovaries) so maybe I am not ovulating well enough and then they don't actually get released and turn into cysts?
What do you think? I am going to bring it up to someone (probably RE if that is the next step - we still haven't decided).

Hmmm. I don't know much about clomid....so I'm unsure if that would affect it. But maybe because you may be getting more mature follies, you are releasing more LH just before they burst, thus the darker line on the OPK....sounds rational, right?!!
I think that its a possibility it could have something to do with the PCOS but it could be that your LH surge is just not as strong without clomid too I would check with the doctor though!!!
I really have no idea... sorry I can't help! I only use digi OPKs, and the response has been the same on both Clomid and non-medicated cycles..
