I have done some research on Femara and it's use with infertility. So then I called the insurance company to see if they covered it under our plan. They said they did - YAY! So now I have a call in to my OB's office and am goign to see if my OB will prescribe it for me if this cycle is a bust. It was interesting to find that clomid doesn't work for many people with PCOS - why I have I been on it for so long then - huh?

So wish me luck! I would fully accept a BFP and not need femara, but whatever it takes right now is what I will do.

Oh, and I also have an appt on September 8th with a thyroid specialist for a number of symptoms of low thyroid (one being lowish temps). I will have ovulated by then, so if I can do the femara that cycle, then that would be super!

UPDATE:
The OB called and talked to me. I burst into tears. Now he wants to see me, so I will have to cancel with the thyroid specialist (I can't do two specialist in basically a one month time period). I am supposed to go the 14th to my OB with every chart for the last 20 months printed out. He is finally talking about upping my clomid dosage. Then if one or 2 more cycles don't work with him he will send me on to the fertility specialist. I got the name of the doctor he would refer to so I can call and check with them on their costs.

I am considering not using this OB when I finally get pregnant. I only stayed there cause he bought my previous OB's practice.

I'm sorry that your OB kinda thwarted your plan! But at least he's willing to up your dosage of clomid. Hopefully that's all you'll need. Well actually, I really hope that you get your BFP this cycle and won't have to worry about any of it!

I just got femara and I paid $60.88 for 5 pills. It is covered under my plan but because it is a cancer drug and has no generic, it was expensive.

Wishing you the best of luck

Edit: Wanted to let you know that I have taken 3 pills and have not had any kind of side effects. I've felt great.

I know quite a few people with PCOS (myself included) that were kept on clomid for way too long. How has your lining been on clomid? Do you do any monitoring with it or just TI? Sorry, I"m knew and trying to get caught up with everyone's protocol. When I switched from my OB to an RE it was the best decision I could have made. It's more expensive but they are so much more knowledgeable for women with PCOS and other fertility issues. OB's are educated very minimally in the art of getting women pregnant... they are there to take care of us after we get preggo!

I hope that you can convince your OB to try some Femara. I could give you lots of success stories from it!

i'm not a dr. but i have done lots of research on femara (this is my last clomid cycle, moving to femara if clomid doesn't work) and I think it's worth a shot for you. Lots of success on it!!! clomid doesn't seem to be working, and upping the dosage is going to cause you more side effects and less CM, which is really really important for conception. I personally think you should talk to your OB about the femara, but again that's just my opinion. I know it is expensive, but i'd pay it in a second with the success rates it has been having. good luck with whatever you and your OB decide to do. how many cycles of clomid have you been on?

I went back and counted and I have done 9 cycles (this one is my 9th) of 50mg clomid. I doubt he will up my clomid dosage cause he had already said in the past when I asked if he would up it that it was too risky and raised the chance of multiples. DH and I have to decide what to do. I think he would rather we do clomid (higher dosage) if the doctor will allow that because it is cheaper. If my insurance covers as much as LeeAnn's did on the femara - it would be like 3 months of clomid 100mg for me. OB didn't WANT to put me on the femara but would if that was what we decided. He is concerned about the chance of birth defects. What has your research said abotu it - mine said it was really low risk from the studies that have been run so far. We will see what happens Friday.

Birth defects on femara are suppose to be low. The drug doesn't stay in the system like clomid does, it has a very short window. Most research shows that birth defects are more common in women who take the drug while pregnant (after conception) than prior to.
