I just wanted to let you ladies know that I may just randomly go MIA. My Grandmother has been in the hospital since Sunday. She and my Aunts and Uncles live 3 hours away so if things get bad, I might be hopping in the car to go down with my Mom to see her.

She was admitted with a UTI, pneumonia, and possible stroke (which she didn't have). Yesterday morning she did have a heart attack. I took my Mom down yesterday morning and spent the day with her. Believe it or not we had some laughs with her. She told my Mom that she was sorry she ran her over with her car (she must have been dreaming it) and called me a Rat fink several times. She also had her bad moments too... she reached her hand out a lot and was asking for my Grandfather's phone number. (Grandpa has been gone for over 20 years). Then right before we left she said "Hi Jesus". OMG- talk about a heart wrencher! It's just so hard to tell how she is. She has Dimensia so it's hard to know what she's saying for real and what is just in her mind.

I know she's in the best care where she is and she is 87 years old. It's just really hard to see your last living Grandparent in such a bad place. We're praying everyday that she has a turn around, but all we really want for her is to be comfortable. Sorry for dumping that all out there, but I wanted to let you know why I was gone if I suddenly went MIA.

oh cris hunny, i'm so sorry your grandma is ill!!!! it is so hard to watch anyone you love go through this, but it's twice as hard with grandparents cause it upsets our parents too. stories of hope are always wonderful so here's mine... my grandmother had a stroke and when she woke up, she didn't remember anyone! including herself. the dr's told us that we would probably have to have her put in an old home with full care. but family members took photos to the hospital and just talked to her and told her who people were and about her life. she seemed so lost! my dad was looking around a senior homes for her, knowing that if she went in one of those, she wasn't coming out. BUT she woke up one morning and had total memory back!!!! no side effects from the stroke at all!!! Dr's said it was a miracle!! so your gramma is going to be JUST fine!!!! I will pray for you and your family. give your mom a big big hug, cause she probably needs one... oh and maybe a drink too!!! HUGS

I hope she gets better soon. UTIs really throw seniors for a loop. They can make them VERY confused. That coupled with her dementia and being in a strange place, no wonder she is saying strange things. Hang in there girl, I am praying for all of you!

I'm sorry this happened Cris. I know how hard it is, especially with her being so far away. Definitely spend some time with her, it will help her fell better. I hope that the UTI clears up quickly and that she feels better soon!

I can't thank you guys enough for your sweet words and thoughts and prayers! You seriously made my day so much better!
Lynda- thank you for that wonderful story. It totally gives me hope! And I've been giving my mom TONS of hugs! I'll make sure she has a drink or two this weekend when my parents go to our neighbor's restaurant for dinner.
Ash- I think you're totally right- she was really disoriented on where she was so I'm sure that didn't help matters much!

Grandma had a good day today! They are weaning her off the Oxygen and she was more coherent and even sitting up in a chair today. My Aunt sounded very pleased, and since she's the fussy one about Grandma's health, I know that's a good thing. It's possible they'll let her go home by the weekend (well to the nursing home which she loves more than my Aunt's house LOL)

Thanks again Ladies! You're friendship means so much to me!
