My Dr offered DH and I two options of what our next step would be (pending clear HSG results)...

1- Clomid, U/S follie monitoring, HCG trigger injection, and "spontaneous" timed BDing (for the following 48 hours or so)

or 2- Clomid- U/S follie monitoring, HCG trigger injection and IUI.

If we chose option 1, and it didn't work after a try or two, we could move onto the bigger (I forgot what he said they were) injections and all the fun stuff for a few cycles and/or IUI.

If we chose option 2, he would do 3 IUIs before sending us onto an RE (actually the one who did Toni's IVF lol)

Just curious which path you would chose if you were in my shoes (I know that's a hard question). My Dr said it really depends on how aggressive we want to be. DH and I agreed to take a few days to think about it before we really talked and decided. I just want to have a plan ready to go for the beginning of next cycle!

Just my opinion... since you haven't had any monitoring or any meds yet, I'd stick with the first option for a time or two... Lisa in ttc#1 only did Clomid and monitoring and it worked for her when she hadn't tried any meds before. It's really up to you and Shawn though. I really wish I had been monitored on my Clomid cycles.

Our TTC journey: 6 cycles Clomid, lap surgery/ D&C, IUI, 2 x IVF; 33 cycles- BFN.
IVF#1 (March 2010) Transferred two 8-cell grade A (perfect) embies- BFN and heartbroken.

IVF#2/FET#1 (Jan/Feb 2011):Transferred two (7&8 cell) grade A (PERFECT) embies- BFN again.
March 2011- February 2012: On BCP due to endometriosis.

March 2012- taking a few months off of BCP and we are TTC naturally.
We will re-evaluate another IVF w/FET try in 2013.

I agree with the first option too. And it is probably the cheaper route too! I too wish I had early on monitoring with my clomid cycles.

We started off with option one.... we did three or four cycles of that. I can't remember now. It's cheaper and a good way to ease into the whole MA thing. One test you can do before trying TI is a post-coital. It will tell you if DH's sperm "gets along" with your CM during intercourse. If you're like me, Dh's sperm can't make it through my CM so IUI is really the best option at this point. Also, some CM literally KILLS sperm... which would be no good! Just another option so you don't "waste" any time.

I'm going to be the odd ball....an IUI isn't really that much...IMO. Mine including the wash was $300. Although I was told that my u/s would not be covered, my insurance has been picking up the tab on those.

I would say just go for the whole she-bang and do the IUI. Other than the severe cramping that I had yesterday, I had a pleasant experience.

Although, you could always try a few timed bding's and then move onto the IUI. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Hi Cris! Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. I would recommend doing the post-coital and sperm antibody test before making a decision. The TI won't do anything if you have hostile CM or Shawn has sperm antibodies that won't let his swimmers get to your eggies. If you don't want to do the testing, I would go straight to the IUIs - just because if there is an underlying issue that you don't know about, the IUIs can help counteract that and IMO it's more productive. Then again I am the world's most impatient person LOL Good luck hun!

For me I would probably jump to option #2 - but I'm older and my bio clock is running a lot faster! Good luck with whichever option you choose.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It's really nice to have some advice from people who have gone and are going through similar things. I'm probably the most impatient yet indecisive person in the world so you can guess how I'm going back and forth!

Most of yesterday I was leaning towards option 1, it's pretty simple and that may be all we need. Then last night I was leaning towards option 2. Like my Dr said, it would bypass most of the things that Kari mentioned.

It really depends on how aggressive we want to be. Our insurance should cover both the options so that's not an issue. I guess more thinking and my famous "Pro/Con" lists will come out in the next day or two! I can't wait to hear what DH has to say. He's been asking me questions here and there but won't let me know which way he's leaning just yet.

Seriously- I could have skipped school the day they drilled into our heads that if you have unprotected sex you WILL get pregnant. Apparently I didn't need that lesson!

Those are both really good options. If there is no difference in price then I would go with option number 2. I do agree with the others that if you only need monitoring then it's worth it to give it a month or two try and see what happens. I would love to have my cycles on Clomid monitored but I've never had that options.

I would chose #1 as well. I have not been in your shoes so I can't offer really good advice, just an opinion but I would try #1 so when and if it didn't work and you moved to see the RE you would have more to show your RE in terms of methods used. You don't want to have to go to the RE and be told to do option 1 when you could have gotten it out of the way first. But either way it isn't an easy decision but I'm wishing you lots of good luck and hope everything works out beautifully!
