So DH and I are starting our search for the perfect family car. We want something that is 4 door for sure. We are thinking either a decent size family car or a midsize SUV. We really like the new Honda Accords and we like the looks of the Chevy Equinox. So, what do you have as a family car, or what are you planning to buy for one?
Thanks guys!

we have a mazda cx-7 and i love it!!! We have a 66 pound boxer that fits comfortably in the in back seat. There's plenty of leg room but it's small enough to not guzzle gas. We got a sunroof and bose sound system all for 23,000 which was a great price!!! DH drives a honda accord. We love it for the gas mileage because he travels alot for work. However we are already planning on getting a crossover SUV for when we have a baby. I don't like putting a carseat in the back. It's too cramped.

I have a Toyota Rav 4. It's been awesome. It's really comfortable and is great on gas. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

We have a VW Passat. It's really great on gas and very roomy. My Nephews like riding in the back and their Booster and car seat fit great. My car is a small commuter car, so we'll be looking for something else. Probably a VW Jetta for me!
I hope you find something you guys like!

I have a Chevy Malibu. When we bought DH's truck, we definitely made our decision with a family in mind- it's a 4 door full crew cab Tacoma.

Our "family" car is DH's truck. It is a F150 Extended cab (doesn't have the full doors in the back).
I have a VERY OLD Honda Accord that I drive during the week.
When baby # 2 comes I will either drive the truck (cause it will be or almost paid off by then) and DH will drive mine or get a newer used small commuter. If we have twins, I think we will get either a Honda Pilot (half my friends have them and love them) or a Ford Expedition type. I don't think we will be able to get a mini van for awhile.

I have a Ford Fusion, which I like and gets good gas mileage and DH just got a Honda Civic. The Civic is surprisingly roomy for it's size, but I'm not sure how comfortably a carseat will fit in it, but the carseat will be in my car most often so thats more important. I will probably get an SUV again when we switch into a bigger carseat or if we have twins, but right now I have a 30 min drive and drive between schools, so 15 mpg is not cool at this point.

We went looking this weekend - our top picks are the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid (or regular). They're both great on gas - really roomy - have the 3rd row (but it folds completely down and then the cargo room back there is awesome).
ETA: We looked at the Equinox as well - it has a lot of room but I didn't like it's reliability rating (it was a 4 out of 10).

I have a Hyundai Sonata. It's a pretty nice car (although I've had to make a couple warranty claims on it, most have been minor little things). It's a pretty peppy v6 but I've still been able to get as much as 32 mpg on it (average is closer to 26, though).
BF just got his license back (had it revoked for DUI's several years ago) so my parents sold him their 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I like Cherokees, but it's getting a bit old so in a couple years we'll probably trade it in on something. Probably a full-sized, extended cab truck or he also likes the Dodge Nitros. I like the smaller SUV's like the Rav4 and Santa Fe.
Whatever we trade the Jeep in on doesn't have to be quite as good on gas mileage because we'll still have my car for long trips. We mainly just want something decent sized (I want 4WD for winter/bad roads) and something with a cargo area for the dog.
