Hi Ladies. I just wanted to introduce myself and ask for a little advice. I'm 29 and DH and I have been trying to conceive for 10 months with no success. I'm really feeling blue and decided that maybe I should set up a Dr's appt to find out if there's a problem . If you've sought help for infertility, how did you know it was time? And how do you prepare for your first appt?

I knew it was time because we had not conceived in 15 months and we seemed to be doing everything right. I just went in and told my concerns to my doctor. I did cry because this process has worn me down.

The best thing out of all of this was doing the IUI - that is when we found out I have cervical scarring, which was not found in any other test....not even the radiologist with the hsg noted it. I'm not sure if it is a problem, but it sure did change the way we will be treated in the future.

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum!!

I moved on to start getting testing done after 8 months ttc, but because I was charting, I knew I hadn't ovulated for 2 of the cycles in those 8 months- which is why I moved forward so early. I wish you luck!

Our TTC journey: 6 cycles Clomid, lap surgery/ D&C, IUI, 2 x IVF; 33 cycles- BFN.
IVF#1 (March 2010) Transferred two 8-cell grade A (perfect) embies- BFN and heartbroken.

IVF#2/FET#1 (Jan/Feb 2011):Transferred two (7&8 cell) grade A (PERFECT) embies- BFN again.
March 2011- February 2012: On BCP due to endometriosis.

March 2012- taking a few months off of BCP and we are TTC naturally.
We will re-evaluate another IVF w/FET try in 2013.

My Dr. wouldn't refer me to a specialist until we were TTC for 1 year (and that was 1 year after our loss). We still haven't seen the RE. I think that, depending on your age and circumstances most will refer after 6 months to a year of active TTC'ing.

If you are charting, I would bring your charts with you. Good luck.

I agree with the other girls, every doc is different and it really depends on your situation. I had been charting for 9 months when I talked with my doc about not getting pregnant. I didn't start any treatment until my 11th month TTC. I say it never hurts to go ahead and mention it to your doc, especially if you already have an appointment. Are you charting?

Thanks for the advice gals. No, I'm not charting. I've tried to avoid being too "scientific" about it (as my mom always says). I was charting at first and everything looked normal, along with very regular periods. I think I'll start doing it again, just to have something to bring to the table. No appt yet either - I'm just now getting the courage up to talk about it!

Welcome to our group!

My Dr wanted us to wait at least a year before we became concerned (but I do O regularly so there seemed to be no reason for concern). You might just want to bring it up to your Dr and see what they say... maybe they'll want to see you sooner rather than later! Good luck!

I went in after 8 months. I was charting and I had already had a child. I was really frustrated. Just go into your regular OB and tell them what is going on. They may help you or refer you on. Good Luck and welcome to our family!

I think charting it the one best advice that I can give you. It gives you and the Dr more information about what may be causing the problems. I wish you the best of luck though that you will get your BFP prior to the Dr's appointment.

i agree with amanda on charting being the way to go. you learn alot about your body and cycles. i've had two miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy so my dr. says i can get pregnant, we just have to find a way to keep me pregnant!! heavy sigh!!

welcome to our group. you'll love it here. my advice to you would be to make an appt with your dr and see what he/she says, it can't hurt. good luck!
