Hi all,
Me (27) and DH (29) have been trying to conceive our first baby for about 18 months now, with no success...Last weekend I had an appointment with my Ob-Gyn to test for HSG (where they check the tubes)..

I hope you must have heard about this procedure....The doctor inserts an iodine based dye with an instrument called catheter ( which is a small pointed tool something having a tip like a needle) into the cervix....Then the X-Ray photographs of the uterus, tubes, ovaries are taken...

The doctor couldn't pass the dye into my cervix with couple of repeated attempts...Then she came to a conclusion that my cervix opening is very small...That could be a problem why its taking so long to conceive..

She has referred me to a Reproductive specialist ...I've an appt this weekend with her...

Has anyone had this problem...?? Were you able to conceive with any kind of treatments afterwards..??

Please help
Saycheez

My ob/gyn has referred me to a Reproductive endocrinologist....She reviewed my condition and has suggested to do a laprascopy and HSG together....They will be giving me anaesthesia, so probably she will be trying to open the cervix .....

Has anyone undergone through laprascopy...What are the care that are needed to be taken after it..

Thanks all,
Saycheez

Looks like no one has heard about such a condition...So I just thought to add my experiences, so that in future if someone comes across such a condition, they will have some kind of reference..

The reproductive endocrinologist performed laparascopy (to look an overview of my uterus, tubes and the ovaries & to check for any unusual growths like fibroids, polyps etc..), hysteroscopy (to have a close look into the uterus and check the paths to the tubes are blocked/clear ), dilatation and curettage (D & C) (scraping the inside of the uterine cavity, dilated my cervical opening to 7 mm size)

Now, I'm asked to have bedrest for a week....And no stressful jobs for a week or so....

Next week, I've have an post operation visit with the doctor, when the doctor will discuss about the solutions we can look for..

Will keep updated of my condition

I have had an HSG but did not have any problems. I am sorry that you didn't get a good response to this. Thank you for posting information on this.

Hi,

I tried getting pregnant for a year and had no luck. My husband and I are greek and when we went to greece over the summer i went to a reproductive specialist. He told me that i had a narrow cervix and that there was a simple operation that he could do to open it. I went in for surgery and he put me under general anestesia. The surgery was only 20 minutes. It was an outpatient proceedure with no pain and i was able to do anything i wanted afterwards. Just no baths nor sex for 2 weeks. I don't know the name of the surgery i had (i'm sorry). But i did have the surgery done in September. The doctor told me that i would be pregnant by Christmas or Easter the latest! I was supposed to get my period on the 23rd of December and on Christmas day i found out that i was PREGNANT!!! Today i am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant!!!

I hope they are able to do this procedure here in the states, if not, i can give you the name of my Dr. in Greece!

Lots of luck.

Ana

hi saycheez! i had an hsg done yesterday. my obyn had a really hard time inserting the tube because my cervix was either closed or too small. She wouldn't say. I asked her if it was somethign to worry about it and she told me that "it is probably just that time of your cycle"

needless to say, I'm somewhat worried. we are ttc.

I don't have much info. now but will post as soon as i hear from my obgyn.

and to anna! wow. that is an amazing story!! congratulations to you!!!

now, this sounds like a perfect reason for my husband to take me to greece!!!!

Does anyone know what the surgery is? I just had my second iui and it was very painful. Two different doctors told me the same thing, that my cervix was very narrow. In fact, both times, they could not get the iui into my uterus so they ended up just doing an ici which is just getting the sperm into the cervix. They tried many different dilator tools (not sure what the correct name is). They told me I could have a shot next time that will help dilate the cervix or surgery. However, the surgery he mentioned dilation is only temporary -for that cycle only. Has anyone heard anything like this?

I have had 4 IUI's done so far, each pretty painful and my doctor has told me each time my cervix is narrow. Acutally he described it more like a cone with the most narrow side towards my uteris. This makes it VERY hard if not impossible to get any thing past the cervix. They have given me pills to take to help me dilate but it will not help the entire cervix. If anyone could help me with any information on surgeries or instruments that may help my doctor - I would very much appreciate it! I have had ALL the tests done and my husband and I are both okay - completly fertile. We just can not get past the cervix.

I am curious if this is what could be holding dh and me up also. I had the HSG test and it took FOREVER to get the catheter in my cervix, the dr thought he had it, they slid me back and the catheter came out, apparently it wasn't really in. He tried over and over and over and after about 15 to 20 minutes he got the catheter in. He didn't say anything about it being abnormally small though, just that sometimes it's difficult to get the catheter where it needs to go. If I don't get a bfp on this cycle (cycle 4 of 50mg clomid) I will ask my doctor about this. Thanks for the info and updates on your situation.

I am new to this site but have had 2 failed attempts at an HSG as well, the first by a radiologist and the 2nd by the reproductive specialist. I had previously tried 3 cycles of clomid without result. I went in for a 3rd try at another diagnostic test of some sort, again trying to enter the cervix. It seems that my cervix is 100% closed after a leep and colposcopy (frustrating b/c every OB I'd seen previously told me how well my cervix had healed after these procedures). The next step is the laproscopic surgery...but I'm trying to coordinate my cycle window with the OBGYN and the OR. Not really sure what to expect except that the OBGYN wants to go in thru my stomach to make sure everything is functioning as it should and attempt to open the cervix at the same time.

I've had a difficult time finding information on the web b/c it seems a closed cervix is a fairly rare problem. If you've had a similar surgery, I'd love to know how it went (and a little more about the process afterwards). Thanks!
