We had our first RE appointment today. It was very anti-climatic. She hardly asked us any questions and barely glanced at my charts. When I asked about our previous test results she said that they were "good". Basically it ended with her giving us a bunch of brochures and ordering an HSG, ultrasound and a new FSH test. I booked a f/u appt for Dec. 15th.
Jason was looking through the brochures and papers and said that since there is a 3- 6 month wait-list for IVF we should sign up now. I told him that he should first actually read everything, decide if he's ready to live with me while I'm on strong hormones, and then figure out how it will fit into the budget before we do that. I was quite surprised that he was ready to jump to IVF though!
So here are our plans: I will go through the tests (obviously). At our next appointment in December we will talk about an IUI and will see about going on the IVF wait list (there's a $250 registration fee, but once you're on it, you're on it).
6 more weeks isn't very long to wait after over 1.5 years.

Sorry it was anti-climactic. After all that waiting... and then to have the doc and the experience not be very inspiring. Sorry about that. I'm going to be following right behind you. I'm going to make a peri appt at the end of this cycle if I get AF. Oh boy... we're in this together Kim!

Sounds alot like how my first appointment was. Hopefully your RE is attentive to your needs though!
Anyways, your plan sounds great. I think taking some time to talk and think over your options is a great idea! So question, if you go on the waiting list for IVF and you get chosen and the timing isnt right for you guys do you go back to the bottom? Or can you ask to do the next month?
I was just curious how that worked!
Congrats on getting things started! Good Luck!

Well, I'm sorry your doctor didn't seem more involved.....I brought my charts in to my doctor and she wasn't impressed - charting is not her preference, opks are.
But I'm glad you've got your testing in order and you'll hopefully know more soon!

I didn't even think to ask Alicia! I barely remembered to ask about weekend hours (which they do have). I will bring it up next time (if I remember).
I was half ready to just say "screw the testing - let's just schedule the IUI!" In my opinion, Jason got a little too excited about the potential possibility of giving me injections!

Well I'm sorry that your RE wasn't the most helpful, but at least you've got the ball rolling and can work on deciding on your plan! I think it's funny that your DH is ready to pump you full of injections! Good luck with the next steps! You know I'll be pulling for you!

Glad you were able to start setting a plan into action. Sorry your RE wasn't as outgoing as you'd like. I think unfortunately sometimes, DR's see us as $$$ or just another number and don't always connect with us anymore. I hope that once you get going you feel better about your plan!

I'm glad you have some information to possibly move forward! I know all too well about those decisions, so I hope they come easier for you and that you both can be set with a plan soon!!

Sorry it was a little anti-climactic, but it sounds like your doctor is going to be more than willing to move forward after a little more testing.
about your husband being a little too excited about giving you injections.

TexasAgs... I'm so sorry I can't remember your name... I only just joined the board when you got your BFP...
That's terrible about your RE bipassing your charts and only wanting to see OPKs. That's SO BAD! Talk about requiring your patients to spend big $$$ to meet your preferences, when they could just spend the money to print out a piece of paper and buy a thermometer.
That's such crap! in my opinion

yea kim!! great to see you're moving forward!!! i've heard some horror stores about the costs of IVF. Seems like lots of people headed that route these days so i'm glad you are going to try the iui first. so why is there a waiting list for IVF?

This clinic serves patients in the southern part of our province and also another neighbouring province. It's a matter of supply and demand. The wait list can be 3 - 6 months.
The costs aren't as bad as we thought. It's $300 per IUI (plus drugs). IVF is up to $10,000 (total fee). I'm really hoping that an IUI is all we'll need!
