Aggghhh, so here we go with some more testing! Let the fun begin I have had more blood drawn from me than the red cross blood mobile! lol. According to the blood tests, everything looks good...am definitely ovulating and my egg count is good. Now, after a year of ttc they want to do an HSG on me this coming up Friday. Has anyone gotten one of these? Is it painful? Did having an HSG actually help you get pregnant? I ask because I've heard some people say that it flushes everything out and can actually help you to get preggers assuming there is no blockage?
Please help!!! Any advice you have is so appreciated. Really trying to get that BFP this month!!!!!

Hi & welcome! I had an HSG in November. It really wasn't as bad as I had expected. My Dr. told me to take a painkiller about an hour before the procedure but I doubt that I needed to. I experienced some cramping when they put the catheter in and a little bit of discomfort when they injected the dye and that's it. I spotted for the rest of the day as well.
The only weird thing for me was that the HSG seemed to have restarted my cycle. I had a 45 day cycle that month and I normally have a 29 day cycle. I'm told that can happen from the stress of the procedure.
Here's the link to my blog post about my HSG: Pregnant Yuppy: HSG is Complete
I hope that yours goes well!

ThANKS KDD so much for the input. I am really nervous myself and I am making DH come with me! We are in this together, so if I have to go through the torture of having a catheter stuck in my pee hole (tmi) then he will at the very least have to be there to calm me. lol! I enjoyed reading your blog...it helps to comfort me a little=)

I had one done a year ago... it wasn't fun by any means, but it was pretty quick. I always have speculum issues, so that was more of my complaint.

I actually just had one done last week, and after hearing everyones stories on JM about them I was scared! But it was sooooo quick and easy for me at least. It felt pretty much just like a pap does, no pain at all...other than the slight uncomfort when the speculum goes in that was it! I am told that my Dr. is very gentle though. Good Luck!

Thanks for sharing all your blogs! I'm thinking of taking a vicodin before going. #1 to calm me and #2 to help with any pain...I know all women experience different feelings with the HSG on different levels. Just not sure what mine will be and don't want to take any chances=) Do you think taking such a pain killer would not be a good thing? Should I just stick to motrin?

I just took two tylenols about an hour before hand and that was plenty! I wouldnt take vicodin, but im one of those people who RARELY takes anything even for a headache. Believe me, it will be alot easier than you think its going to be!

OK. Thanks Ashley. I know I am probably just being paranoid...I guess it was some of the stories I read too like how one woman literally jumped off of the table! That kinda freaked me out! I'm hoping that this will also help with getting pregnant...keep your fingers crossed for meeeee I will post how it goes for me.

I just had my HSG today. I was pretty worked up about it, considering all of the horror stories I read about it. I took 3 ibuprofen an hour before the procedure. It was a bit uncomfortable when the speculum and catheter were inserted, even more uncomfortable when they were removed, but not painful by any means. I had to roll both left and right on the table, which wasn't much of a problem. After the test I had severe cramping while I was sitting on the table, and had to sit there for about 10 minutes, as I started to feel light-headed (my husband brought along a granola bar which helped). Then I got dressed, came home, and now an hour later I feel fine. I wouldn't want to do it again, but not as bad as I was expecting.

I have to agree with you Kmitaksov! Mine was actually uneventful...nothing too painful. Had a bit of sharp cramping when the red dye was flushed but that only lasted 20 seconds or so and then it was done. Whew! What a relief! Good news is that my tubes are all open!!!!

I had mine in May of 2009. I am sure there is a post around here with my update. I drove myself. I felt fine till halfway home and the cramps started. I did take Tylenol before and periodically throughout the day. I was horizontal most of that day too. The next day or two my abdomen was still quite sore, but I was able to do the normal things I do. I did not get pregnant that cycle though. I haven't gotten pregnant once in this TTC journey.
