Yay i'm feeling better now. I selected my RE (which was harder than i thought) and I have my first appointment March 30th!!!! one minute i'm excited, the next minute i'm scared to death!!!! I have to have CD3 testing done and then an HSG and DH has to have his little swimmers tested. My insurance covers NOTHING!!!!
Anyone know how expensive an HSG and Sperm Analysis is?
thanks

I'm so glad you went ahead and got your appointment made! As for costs, they may be able to give you a little break (depending on the office) if it's all out of pocket. My HSG was around $1200 if I remember correctly, but luckily my insurance did pay a portion of it because it's "diagnostic". Are you sure your insurance won't cover any of it? As for the s/a, it depends on the lab. With my OB/GYN, it was only $65 or so, but with my RE they do a little more testing and it was closer to $200.

SA was $75 for us (I think that is what DH told me), but the fertility clinic gave us a break on it because our insurance didn't cover it.
My insurance covered part of my HSG - we paid $500. I think when I was researching it, they quoted me somewhere around $2,000. You might look into it further, mine was considered diagnostic and so it was covered.
All my bloodwork was covered 100% so I don't know what that would cost.

Congrats on your first appt You will feel better after it I promise. I think I was depressed before my appt and now I am WAY better...LOL. Looks like your appt is going to go about the same as mine. I had an ultrasound that day too....
My insurance also covers NOTHING! It sucks so bad but what can you do?! Our SA was $90 but I haven't had the HSG yet so I'm not sure about that one. I wonder if you could call ahead and ask for an estimated cost so you know what you're going into?

i gasped at the $1,200. that is just crazy!!! and yes I know my insurance covers NOTHING!!! if it's fertility related, it is not covered. do they do hsg's for anything other than fertility? well i am saving my pennies and trying to make some extra cash by selling stuff on the internet. it's so hard to make a dollar, but it's very easy to spend it!

You ladies had me second guessing, so I went on my health insurance website- and it totaled $1194:
HSG itself:
1 U272 MED/SURG SUPPLIES & DEVICES-STERILE SUPPLY 01/16/2009 $172.00
2 74740,U320 HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY 01/16/2009 $464.00
3 58340,U361 CATH FOR SALINE INFUSION SONOHYSTEROGRAPHY OR HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY 01/16/2009 $260.00
And Radiology (to read the HSG results):
1 58340 CATH FOR SALINE INFUSION SONOHYSTEROGRAPHY OR HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY 01/16/2009 $221.00
2 74740 HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY 01/16/2009 $77.00

Wow, I really can't believe that cost.
Lynda - my insurance also will not cover anything that has to do with fertility issues. It's really not fair I don't think. I think you should be able to elect to pay a little extra each month to have fertility coverage. We just found out DH has to get a second SA done that is more involved than the first one and it's going to cost $175!

Congrats on finding who you want to go with and good luck! I'm still stalking you ladies and praying for BFPs.
My insurance covered no fertility stuff, but they did cover diagnostic. If you haven't already, you may want to check on the wording of that. Also, like Jackie said, they may give you a break. When you get a bill for anything, call and see what portion you have to pay. Some places will give you a nice discount, especially the hospital for the HSG.
I don't know how much my HSG was. DH's SA was about $100.

I'm so glad that you made the appt!! Hopefully at least some of your HSG costs will be covered.
