I am mainly on the TTC board but lurk over here a bit. DH had and SA about s month ago and thingd came back normal. My Dr wants me to get an HSG test done. AF showed today so we are officially on our 11th cycle. DH made the comment last night that he thinks the HSG will just be a waste of our money. That I am just stressing to much and the stress can do things to my body. We have had well timed BDing the last 10 cycles (I chart and use OPKs). Do you think I am jumping the gun here with getting the HSG done? I find it a little weird that my dr doesn't want to do bloodwork first, but I don't think it is hormonal. My LP is anywhere from 12-14 days long and I O every month and my cycles are regular at 27-30 days long.

I don't think you're jumping the gun at all. I started seeing my OB/GYN about this stuff at the 7 month mark. In that time period, I had 2 annovulatory cycles that I needed Provera to even start a new cycle. We were at the 13 month mark when I had my HSG done. That's what got the ball rolling on all of the issues that were uncovered. I will say that my first step was having bloodwork done to check hormone levels, and I agree with you that it seems like the "proper" order of doing things. I'd go for it if your doctor is willing!

I saw my OB the first time at 8months TTC - started clomid and then did an u/s of my ovaries. Then from there we did more clomid, metformin (after diagnosis of PCOS), and then about 6 months later we had the SA, HSG, and some other blood tests and clomid.

Most doctors will say a year, if you have been pregnant once or repeated miscarriages, some doctors will see you after 6 months. I had a previous pregnancy and got pregnant while NTNP and walla. Now I have been TTC over 2 years and still not pregnant with no other issues other than PCOS (supposedly).

My Dr. wouldn't do any testing until we had been TTC for a year after our m/c. Which I thought was stupid - and I still do. At the 11 month mark I went back and insisted. She agreed and ordered the Day 3, Progesterone and SA tests and referred me to an RE as well. That was about a year ago.

we had the luxary of getting bfps, but the disluxary (my word) of having m/c's. so they didn't do any testing cause they just thought it was bad luck. two years later, i'm beginning the testing. i have to have an hsg too and i'm finding them to be very expensive. but if i were you, i'd be seeing if a dr. might do some testing right now. can't hurt! most dr's will make you wait till you have been ttc for a year. you could always tell them it's a year already.! you're close. sorry hun!!! hugs! and you're welcome to join us here, we'd love to have you!

Thanks everyone. I am hoping to talk with DH again tonight if he doesn't get home to late. My Dr. is very proactive which is something I loved about him, he is very nice too. It just kind of threw me for a loop when he said he wanted to do the HSG first before any bloodwork. I don't want to spend the money either on an HSG. I have a high deductable health care plan and I have to spend my $2000 before insurance kicks in so I think the HSG is going to cost me about $500. I don't want to get it either if it is not going to tell us anything but there is just no way of knowing. I had a MC is Nov 08 but the Dr said and I have read elsewhere that just because you were pregnant in the past it doesn't mean your tubes aren't blocked now. It is so confusing! TTC shouldn't be this difficult! Like everyone says - you spend so long trying to prevent pregnancy from happening that when you decide you are ready you really have no idea just how hard it may turn out to be.

I'm sorry you are going through this

In our case, we had been TTC for 6 months but with only 3 periods when I first went to the doc. We got referred to a fertility specialist in my 4th cycle after DH had an SA done. I am also about to get an HSG.

I agree that you should get some testing done and try to find out what the problem is so you can get your bean asap!!

Well, I would probably ask him to do the bloodwork first since it's so expensive...just to be sure. We sort of fell into ttc b/c I was diagnosed with endo and pcos within months of each other, so they put me on clomid right away since I wasn't ovulating. If you feel like you should have it done, you should do it. You could always tell DH you'll wait one more cycle so he feels like he has a say in it...although that is REALLY hard to do!!! GL hun!

It was at month 7 for me, but I had been NTNP for 15 months before.
