ok so AF showed yesterday - yay!!!! cycle over!!!! yay!!!!
so i scheduled the hsg for this coming friday. Can anyone tell what all happens in a hsg????? those who have had it of course.... thanks so much!!!!
cd3 bloodwork of course falls on sunday, when they are closed - i just knew it would!!! so we're going to do cd4 bloodwork. they said it should be fine that they do it from cd2 to cd4 with cd3 being the best. ahhhhhhhhhh timing i'm telling you.
I almost didn't get the hsg this cycle cause of memorial day. my dr. was all booked up thurs and fri and mon was a holiday so they wanted to push me to next month and I said absolutely not. So I'm having the hsg with a different dr. I was totally ok with that. and thank God I got in!! I could not wait another month!!!
so that's it girls. any info on the hsg would be greatly appreciated. i'll google it later too.

Yay for a new cycle!!! I'm glad you are on your way to finding out what the problem is and fixing it!!!
As for the HSG here's what happened with me: Go into the room, undress from waist down and wait! you sit on this bed that looks like when you get a pap smear but it had this huge bowl looking thing under where your bum goes (I guess to catch anything) So anyway, the doctor comes in and explains what it going to happen and when it will get uncomfortable. Then I laid back and first she "cleaned" me with something and then she sprayed some numbing spray. Then she put in the speculum and inserted the cathedar. I could feel this but it didn't really hurt. She then injected the dye and that hurt. It was kinda like AF cramps but times 100 for me. It only lasted about 30 seconds and then was gone. She then took out the speculum and cathedar and did something else....not sure what it was but I think maybe there was a light up there?
And that's it! You will be totally fine It really was no big deal at all. Afterwards I had to put on this HUGE pad in case I spilled. But nothing came out of me. Then my doctor let me look at the screen and see that everything went in and splled out normally. The whole procedure took about 5 minutes

I just wanted to wish you luck. I have not had the test done, but several ladies on the ttc board have within the past couple months. They only experienced minor discomfort during the procedure. I hope everything comes back clear!

Lynda, if your cervix cooperates, I don't think they would need to clamp anything. They had to do it with me because my cervix sucks!
Sarah explained everything pretty well. I only had some minor cramping and spotting for that day (minor!), and the worst part of the procedure for me was dealing with my silly cervix. If you get paps done with ease, this should be nothin' for ya! Good luck lady!

hey, just wanted to share my experience with my hsg!
the procedure was the same as what is mentioned above and what you can find on the internet. seems pretty involved, but when you're in there, you don't have to really pay attention to what's going on until they show you the fun tv screen with your tubes. i think mine was done in 10 minutes, but i didn't have any blockage, so it could be longer if you do.
i took 2 aleve before i went, and had my mom come with me just in case (DH was stuck at work.) i freaked myself out pretty badly beforehand because i checked out all the tools they were going to use-- i don't suggest doing that. that was really the worst of it. it felt just like a pap smear, just a few minutes longer. i did have to get a shot in my cervix to numb it, and that burned for a second (odd feeling), but after that, it was just the discomfort of everything. i had very very slight cramping for about 4 hours after and bleeding for about a day after. the next day, i played tennis. hopefully yours will be as easy! the nurse told me that if you typically are ok when you have paps done, you'll probably be ok with the hsg. good luck, and i hope you get good news!

My HSG went pretty much the same as everyone else's (though I never got anything to numb anywhere... hmm? Oh well).
I felt very minor discomfort and it was over in a minute. I got to see everything on the screen and my DH was there with me too watching and holding my hand. They made me lay down for a few minutes after too. I didn't have any spotting or dye leaking after either.
I'm sure everything will go perfectly for you Lynda! I'll be thinking of you and I'll say a prayer for some good results!

Sarah explained it pretty well, and I didnt have any kind of numbing either. But anyways, the only thing that I felt at all was when he started inserting the dye it felt like very very mild AF cramps for me. Honestly I wouldnt even describe it as cramps because it didnt really hurt at all, thats just the only thing I can compare it to.
GOOD LUCK!!

My HSG was similar as well. No numbing agent. I was also just on a regular flat exam table with no bowl type thing under me to catch stuff. It was uncomfortable for a short time, but not painful. I hope yours is quick and painless.
