hi gals, as most of you know we are going the IVF route. I talked to them about how many embies they recommend implanting and they told me it was really up to me. They said only implant as many as you are willing to take home. Ideally we want one more baby and then we're done. Twins are manageable, but anymore than that would be very difficult. How do you make that decision???

If it were me I would put two (maybe 3) in and pray that at least one implants!
Good Luck!

We did two and ended up with none, so it's a decision that only you can make. I hope you get a sticky bean!

I think its entirely up to you. If you are having issues getting pregnant on your own and/or you are having hard time getting good grade embie babies I would do 3-4, but if you have decent ones I might only do 2. I hope you do whats right for you. I know Kim (KDD) did 3 and only 1 stuck

Your chances drop dramatically if you only do one. I would do at least 2. What Pebbles said about quality is also a very valid point. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. I know a lot of women who have had great success with IVF on the 2nd go. I didn't know that when I did it, so I was devastated when it didn't work the first time. Good luck Lynda. I am really excited for you!

Honestly Lynda for you getting pregnant doesnt seem to be the problem so I wouldnt go too far out there. Embryo quality is prolly going to be a main factor in your decision, or at least it would be for me. If you have great quality embryos and since I think I remember you saying you are willing to try 2 fresh IVF and any FETs that come with that I would go with 2 max for your first. Now if your embryo quality isnt quite as good then maybe look at 3 or more. However, you never know whats going to happen. Our first IVF we had a literally PERFECT cycle. We transfered two perfect embies and it ended in a BFN. I found the FET cycle so much easier! We ended with 4 live embryos to transfer. They werent perfect but werent bad either. We had already decided to up to 3 embryos before we knew what we had left. Since we only had 4 thaw we chose to transfer them all. I am now 8 1/2 weeks with a singleton.
So, my advice is to talk about how many you want based on quality. I would really focus on making your decisions based on the quality and not just how many in general. But the reality is you just never know. Its such a hard process and it sucks to not have much control over it! I am totally praying for you every day! If you have any questions or concerns or just want to talk let me know! Good Luck hun!

My clinic rarely transfers more than 1 embryo (and they have the best success rates in Canada). But our embryo quality was so poor they gave us the option to transfer up to 3. I called it an "infertility hail Mary". Of the 3, only 1 stuck. However, they did make sure to tell us the tale of a 42 year old who transferred 3 - all 3 implanted and 2 split.
You have to do what feels right for you. If we had had better embryo quality (and had any survived for freezing) we might only have transferred 1 or 2.
