Sooooo I went back to my OBGYN yesterday. This is cycle number 8. I had this whole speech prepared as to why I wanted her to send me to the specialist and then......I didn't have to give it to her. She started with saying....well, its been 8 months if you want to go I will send you. I'm happy I didn't have to fight with her about it. So she is sending me to a fertility specialist. I brought it up with my hubby last night and while he is excited, he started thinking about the money aspect of it...which I told him NOT to worry about yet. I know we get some insurance benefits from it, just not exactly sure yet on what....I have to call. So I'm calling the specialist tomorrow to get an appointment ASAP but I'm still hoping AF doesn't show this month...she is due this weekend.

---What was your experience with a fertility specialist?

---How long after seeing a specialist did you get pregnant?

we tried on our own for 2 1/2 years. 4 miscarriages to show for it and they couldn't figure out why i was miscarrying. went to RE, who suggested IVF with ICSI fertilization (creates a strong fertilization). we did one cycle of ivf and are now pregnant! hoping this one sticks. don't be afraid to get help, it's well worth it!!!! good luck and i hope AF does not show!

We never got that far. My OB ran all the tests the specialist would have run (HSG, etc). No clue why we weren't getting pregnant either. I finally ended up pregnant after 2 years and 2 months.

We've been trying for 7 months now, at 6 months my OB said to go see a specialist. So I am going on Sept. 15 to a specialist for the first time. MY OB, who I haven't been that crazy about, really surprised me, and said go see a fertility specialist. From her perspective, the specialist helps people get pregnant, its what they do. She helps people have their babies. I was really glad she didn't tell me to just keep trying, and we'll see what happens in 6 months.

I'm only 31, and it might be a waste to see someone, but I'm willing to pay the co-pay to find out. I'm not sure how far my husband and I will go if something is wrong, but its better to know sooner rather than keep going on through the emotional roller coaster of each monthly cycle.

Good luck at your appointment. I'll keep you posted on what I learn.

I'm glad that your Dr sent you to the specialist. I hope that you'll get some answers and be able to get that BFP in no time!

We've been ttc for over 3 years, but I haven't yet gone to an RE. My OB/GYN speacilizes in infertility, so we're working with him for now. After another 2 IUIs, we'll probably be heading to an RE.

I think we first saw our RE last September or October. She re-ordered all the tests my GP did plus ordered an HSG. We met with her again in November to review the results. There seemed to be no reason why we weren't getting pg on our own (TTC for 2 years after a m/c). She said that given our ages that IVF would be our best bet. We put our names on the wait list and used Clomid in December and did Clomid + IUI in January. Our IVF cycle was in March and we got our BFP in April.

Good luck!

All you ladies are giving me so much hope that the specialist will hopefully help us to see that BFP!! And at the very least give us some answers. Thank you for all your input!!

I haven't had any tests done so far, I have heard it can be pretty invasive
