about the new travel safety procedures being conducted at some of the airports? seems you can choose to have a "pat down" (which i heard was more than a pat down from interviewed passengers) or a full body scan. wondering what you thought of this...

My husband is very adamantly against both. He reads all these articles. He said that the full body scans, not only expose all of you to God and everyone, but that they also expose you to more than the amount of x-ray radiation than you're supposed to receive in your whole lifetime. He says that when you opt to be patted down they full on grope you. He even showed me an article where a woman in Amarillo, TX (that's 2 hours from where I live) is suing the TSA because he grabbed her boob. And he also says that they're cavity searching little kids! I don't like any of it so I don't intend to fly any time soon. (Not that I go that many places anyway....

I seriously considered canceling my trip to the US earlier this year because of it. I didn't want to be exposed to the radiation or the pat down. Thankfully I wasn't selected for either! Traveling to the US is getting to be more and more of a PITA. These new rules will certainly any future travel plans that we have to the US.

I worked in airports for 5 years up until April. The full body scan machines have very low doses of radiation. In fact, you get more radiation from flying on an airplane for 15 minutes than in the machine. Having been through security an average of 3 times per day in more than 20 airports I can say the pat downs are not that bad. I would rather someone grope me than an airplane blowing up due to someone hiding a weapon in their bra! Also, as an FYI - TSA only performs same sex patdowns and only in public unless you request a private area. Meaning females only pat down females and the same for males.

Just my 2 cents.

Im pretty okay with it truthfully. Kinda like Missy I dont want to get blown up, they only got these strict rules because they ran experiments to see what they could smuggle past the agents...and they got a lot through...

but the horror stories coming out of this. they made a 9 year old boy take off his shirt and an 80 year old woman had to prove that her breast prothesis (sp) was indeed that. she said she was horrified. now do we really thing a 9 year old boy and an 80 year old woman are a threat? really... i don't think security is a bad thing, but i think this is going a bit far!

I agree Lynda. That is just ridiculous.

DH told his bosses that if there was any reason for him to travel it would not be by plane. I am praying I don't have to fly with my new baby in the coming year (my gram has been sick).

christina, i'm sorry to hear about your gram!! saying prayers for her hun!!! i am not traveling anytime soon - at least by plane. they are going to have to get a grip on this thing cause it's truly out of hand. they interviewed a man yesterday that has to wear a bag on his side to collect urine, due to some cancer issues. he told the TSA people that he needed to be checked in private due to this issue and they told him they didn't have anywhere private to go. in searching him, they spilled the urine bag and it went all over this man. he had to sit on a plane, drenched in his urine. can you imagine! shame on them
