Hello all
My husband and I have been trying for number 2 for 6 mths now. I'm very frustrated. Everything is different than it was before my DS. We didn't even really try for him. My periods are different with a few days of heavy flow then nothing and then spotting. I've been to my midwife, my OB for DS blew me off, and she checked my thyroid (family history) normal! Any way she told me to try Robitussin. Have any of you tried this? If so how did you take it and what were your results? Thanks for listening!

hi and welcome. i'm sorry things are harder this time around.
About robitussin.. since it's an expectorant it helps to thin mucous in your body, including cervical mucous. This can help make it easier for sperm to get up into your uterus. Do you have EWCM before ovulation? This is a stretchy clear kind of cervical mucous that helps the sperm. If you already have this then robitussin is not really needed.. but if you decide to use it, make sure you get the kind with only ONE active ingredient - guafanesin. The robitussin with DM will actually work against you.
Another option for solving the cervical mucous problem is to use a sperm friendly lubricant like pre-seed. I use this and I really think it helped me (I got preggo twice but miscarried).

By the way, do you know what your actual thyroid results were? I ask because the range that most docs who are not fertility specialists like RE use outdated ranges. Most REs like to see TSH between 1 and 2. Mine likes to see it between 0.8 and 2 and has put me on meds to control it since mine was high. See if you can find out the numbers..

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Yes I do get EWCM, but not the quantity that I did before DS. My TSH was 1.82. It seemed that all my levels were right in the middle of the ranges suggested. Do you or anyone happen to know the dosage? My midwife said to follow the directions which are 2 tps every 4 hrs.
Thanks again

Hi Yes that dose sounds right. Make sure to drink lots of water while taking it too! And yes your TSH sounds right so no worries on that front. Good luck!

hi there and welcome!!! we are happy to have you! i've been really really sick and finally feeling better. i went through much of the same things you are going through. i did use the robitussin. but we had to move to IVF due to many many miscarriages. if i were you, i'd be changing my diet to loads of fruits and veggies. lots of water and vitamins. that helped my cycles. it's hard not to self medicate, but i would resist the urge to do that. it screwed up my cycles worse. eating healthly with moderate exercise should do loads for your cycles. please feel free to post any and all questions here. happy to help in anyway i can.

I agree with Lynda about eating right, but so you know, Robitussin won't do anything to your cycle.
