DH and I have been talking about doing a few IUI cycles lately. He's calling the local fertility clinic tomorrow. Essentially we've been NTNP for a year (minus a few months when we were WTTC because of health/money problems) and actually TTC for about 9 months. We're really thinking about going and getting something checked out for real. But I'm very nervous.

We're both going to get checked out soon as well. We've been talking about IUI a bit, but he wants to get checked out completely first. We really don't have the money for a few cycles of it, and especially not IVF, but we're looking into it anyway. Good luck to you two with your appointments!

Hopefully it'll work out for both of us, Allie!

I don't have any fertility coverage on my insurance so basically we would be paying out of pocket for all this stuff. The fertility clinic nearest to me is about 20 minutes away which is awesome news, and they have some pretty great rates as well. Without insurance I'm looking at about 300-600$ per IUI cycle, depending on if we go natural or with Clomid or injectibles, etc. We could probably afford that for about 3 cycles but DH is going to welding school as well as working so money is tight because I'm only a preschool teacher. So we shall see. DH said if the IUI's don't take we'll talk about IVF later down the road, like once he has a welding job in a field he likes. So I'm hopeful but kinda nervous and scared at the expense. He refuses to get into any debt for this so IVF at this point isn't a consideration, I'm just happy he even considered the IUI to be honest.

We have discussed it but we both mutually decided against it for many reasons.

If we were younger then it would have been an option already.

DH and I have just started talking about medical assistance in TTC. We are looking into The Conception Kit. Some insurances cover that with a copay, and some don't. DH said that he is willing to try whatever I am willing to try. We are going to give TTC naturally until the end of the year before we really pursue anything medical.

Aillidh we have so much in common. I was a preschool teacher. I've been laid off for 7 yrs now. I live in NY as well. I don't have any fertility coverage on my insurance so basically we would be paying out of pocket for as well. The fertility clinic is 45 mins away from us, so it's going to be a pain especially with the gas shortage b/c of hurricane sandy. Our REI appt is scheduled to discuss IUI on Dec. 3rd. We've been TTC 8mths this yr. We've TTC in the past 2 yrs for a total of 18 months. My hubby has low sperm count & Morphology issues. They said he'd need surgery, but we decided not to do that b/c of him working losing time especially with his deductable through his insurance, he's paying 3,000 then they'll start paying & it goes back to 3,000 in Jan. So we decided to go with getting a refferal for IUI, the urologist said it was his best shot. We were surprised when we were blessed with enough money from our vows renewal ceremony in Sept so we can pay for it.

An IUI is where they get washed sperm and insert it directly into the uterus so it does not get killed off by the cervix which is where up to 95% of sperm can be killed.

Wow, IUI for only 300-600 a cycle. I thought it was much more than that. that's not bad at all!
