Going down the IVF route?

I am on my 2nd round of clomid and if im not pg after the 3rd cycle we have IUI.
If after 3 cycles of IUI with clomid and we are still not pg,
we will have a 3mth break then have full blown IVF.

It seems like a emotional merry go round already with the clomid let alone IVF
But if the IUI fails 3 times, we will definately be having 2 goes at IVF if thats what it takes.
Just wondered how long you girls would wait and what avenues you would exhaust 1st...?

Good luck to us all. I pray we dont have to make such a choice.

Sarah

Personally if you know you want to have IVF then I would go for it.

I think it kind of depends on insurance and how much you have to pay too. If you are paying already for IUI and other montioring and meds, I would possibly skip all that and go for IVF to save some time and money.

For me if we end up having to pay for all of IVF on our own, I don't know that I would have it done. It is a lot of money, stress and time and you are still not guaranteed anything. We are going to continue with Clomid, hormonal treatments, and keep trying naturally for a while and after two years more we will probably start the adoption process.

My dh and I had to choose what we were going to do "first" when thinking of having a baby together. My tubes were tied from previous marriage. We weighed the options which were:

1. have a tubal reversal of which none of it was covered by our insurance...we had to pay the doctor $3500.00, the anesthesia $750.00, and the hospital costs were $7,101.52..(of which we paid around 4500, because they reduced it if we paid all at once)...and then we would get to try on our own to make a baby...

2. we could have done the ivf..which was over $10,000.00 a "shot" and not even guaranteed to get pregnant...so we would have to pay that everytime and go through the shots and everything else that comes with it...

So we opted for the surgery...but...if the surgery isn't a success...then we will look into the IVF again. We are not wealthy by any means of the word..and do not have the funds to do this as we already have 4 children...but we will look into if/when the time comes.

I hope you have some success soon Sarah..I am so sorry you have not had any yet...Best of luck to you and whatever you decide!

i dont really want to do anything more than clomid and IUI. when i turn 25 (about a year and a half) we are planning to adopt if i'm not pregnant. if i dont get pregnant though i wont go on any bc and if something happens then we will be thrilled.

As i live in England, we get fertility treatment free.
The protocol is 3 cycles of clomid alone. Then 3 IUI with clomid.
If pregnancy is not acheived after all this, then we get 2 free 'shots' at IVF.
I guess it is a long drawn out process but we could never afford all these chances if we had to pay.

You are truly blessed to have those options available. It is a shame when money has to get in the way of having treatment and having a baby.
