My Dh and I will have been ttc for 1 year in April. We decided when I reached the 6months point that if we hadn't concived with in 1 year without mediacl help that we would try other alternitives. Well that year point is coming up soon and I have an appointment for the end of march to be reexamined by a gyn (haven't been to one since April) and discuss other options. I just want to know what all the medical alternitives are and what I should expect when I go to the appointment.
At the first appointment when dealing with fertility issues, they usually order bloodwork for cd3 and cd21. Cd 3 bloodwork consists of testing TSH (throid), FSH, LH, e2 (estrogen) and I think there's something else, but I can't remember for certain. The cd21 bloodtest is to test your progesterone to see if you are ovulating or if you are ovulating if you are ovulating strong enough. They also will usually want your dh to do a seman analysis.
One of the first more invasive tests they do is a HSG. This is where they insert a catheter into your uterus through the cervix and inject dye in. They use x-ray stuff so they can watch the dye and see if it flows through your tubes. This checks for uterine abnormalities as well as making sure your tubes are clear.
An u/s may also be ordered to check your ovaries.

Be sure to ask about these if your dr is not agressive. My dr will not do bloodwork for progesterone so I will have to convince her. If you chart, be sure to take those with you too. Good luck!

Thanks! That was helpful for me to know, too . . . as far as the sperm analysis goes, does my DH go to his own doctor, or will my doctor recommend someone? My appointment isn't until the first week in April, but I have NO idea what to expect

Hello there, lurking from the TTC forum.
Your DH will need to find a Urologist to do his Semen Analysis.
Its a fairly simple procedure (obviously) and it will answer MANY questions.
