We have a sump pump in our basement. We've lived here almost 3 years and it has worked just fine. Well, the last 2 or 3 times it has had to run in the past month or two, it SMELLS to high heaven - think rotten eggs - and stinks up the entire house. BARF.
Anyone know what's wrong with it and how I can fix it?? I manually flipped the trigger thing so it would drain again - and that usually works - but it's not doing the trick today.
I think we figured it out. We had to keep running it and there was some water coming up from the drain in the floor too. Lovely. Thankfully it's in a closet, cement floor, so there wasn't any damage done. Got rid of that water, poured some bleach in the pump and it seems to be doing the trick. Obviously the water that was standing over the drain was the problem. Nice.
Ummmmmmm I totally was gagging! I made DH come home at lunch and take care of it because I couldn't stand to open that closet door. I almost lost my lunch! Nasty.
But hooray for hubbies that do things like that for their wife they love!
