My father is a drunk, and I watched him put my mother through hell (and she's still with him after 34 years). I couldn't tolerate it in my dh- I specifically looked for someone who didn't drink (maybe a beer now and then). I know that when they say they're sorry, they'll do it again and it usually only gets better- you always think you'll be the exception.

Simple answer, no.

I think it depends on how he acts with alcohol, my father became an alcoholic 8 years ago when he was made redundant from a job he had been in for over 25 years, when he lost his job he lost his confidence and his pride of being the bread winner in our house, i think he drank through boredom and pity, my mum asked him to leave through it, he then went to AA and got his self sorted out. Him and mum are back together although i do sometimes feel very sorry for him, if we are have a few wines. I know this is a bit long but it really does depend on the person and if they are willing to get help, also my father was a happy drunk, if some one was agressive, it would be a definite no no.

Pauline. (Sorry for the long explanation.)
