Ok, so I called to make my HSG appt yesterday... they told me to call the first day of my next cycle.... I did. Well, my appt has been set for April 3rd. Now I'm supposed to ovulate April 4th. So it's almost pointless for DH and I to BD before the third because all those swimmers will just be pushed up and out of my uterus/tubes. My next question... which may seem dumb.... when I ovulate... is that when the egg is leaving the ovary? Doesn't it take a couple days to go through the tubes? I'm just worried that if I have it done on the 3rd that they'll push that little egg up and out if it's already on it's way. I'm pretty sure I won't ovulate early.... so I am not sure what to think Does this make sense to anyone?

they're doing it that late in your cycle? I was told they prefer to do it in the first ten days......

I wouldn't worry about them pushinbg the egg out, but I would definitely ask again because that seems awful late to do the HSG

I did... and they told me I could wait until next month for another appt if I wanted to. It's the 11th day of my cycle, but I have short cycles and I ovulate on the 12th day....

hmmm if I remember back to school sex ed lessons I *THINK* you ovulate when your egg leaves the follicles im guessing it only takes around 24 hours or so for it to travel down the tubes as thats how long it 'survives' for and the sperm usually meet the eggy in the tubes, i think thats right, then when fertilized the egg is meant to keep travelling and embed in the uterus and when it doesnt travel is when it ends up as an ectopic.
Phew im knackered now, thats a lot of thinking for me and I dont even know if thats correct

Toni, I would definately call the doctor's office again and ask them this question. I would be worried about it too. Maybe they'll have a cancellation and be able to get you in just a couple days earlier. Good luck. Please let us know how it goes....I'm thinking that's going to be my next step as well.

As soon as the egg is released in a person it is ready to be fertilized. It is best for the sperm to be sitting in the tubes waiting for the egg. The fertilized egg then travels down the tube, and implants into the uterine body after a week or so.

As for the test that does seem awfully close to your ovulation. I can see how they might have all the other appointments booked up though. I would assume that any sperm in the tubes, while they wouldn't be pushed out, would be killed by the dye(I can't imagine that it is sperm friendly dye). It is also supposed to take a day for all the dye to run out. So, maybe you will have a late ovulation, you still have a shot once all the dye is gone to get a BD in the day of ovulation even if it is the next day.

Thanks Carmela, I kinda assumed the same thing about the sperm. Ugh, one day to get it right huh? That sucks. I am not overly optimistic right now, I'm already planning on being out for this cycle.

I agree with the other girls...CD 11 seems awufully late to do an HSG, especially since you O early. When I had mine done my OB wanted it between CD5-CD9. I would definately call.

Well I called my Dr's office again this morning and talked to the original nurse that had scheduled my appt. She said that unforunately it's all booked up. I could reschedule for next month if I want to, but I declined. I just think if I reschedule for next month, the same thing is going to happen. I just want to get it done and over with so we can get down to business.
