I was thinking about going to visit my OB and talk to her about TTC. I need to get a pap smear done anyway, so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Do you think it's jumping the gun to talk to her about our options, when we've been TTC for 6 months post miscarriage? I know that stats say that 60% of women conceive after 6 months, so only a bit better than half. And they say not to worry until it's been a year. BUT it seems like it takes most of the women on JM much less than 6 months. Or is that just my perception? It took us two months last time.

If I do speak to her, what should I ask? My chart shows that I am ovulating and obviously I did get pregnant before. I don't know if it's premature to run tests or talk about treatments? What do you think?

I'm not sure what could be keeping us from getting pregnant this time around.

I didn't see a fertility doc till after a year of TTC. I've heard many won't see you until you've been TTC that long. Not sure about a basic OB/GYN. Good luck.

I don't think it's jumping the gun to talk about your options. You have to make an appointment anyway for your pap. Asking questions while you're there is completely normal. Depending on your doc, your age, medical history etc. your doc may tell you he/she'd prefer to wait to do anything or may say it's time to run a blood test. It can't hurt to at least bring it up.

Shannon, I've been wondering the same thing. I've decided that if I don't get my BFP April 16, then I will go to my dr after af leaves and get my pap and talk to her about everything. It can't hurt to see what they have to say since you need to go anyway. Good luck to you. It's been 7 months since my loss. It only took me 2 months to get pg that time and the same when I tried for my dd. I know it's frustrating. If you need to talk, I'm here for you anytime.

I think what the others said is great. Definitely talk to her, she may want to run tests or she may tell you to come back in a few months.

I would definitely mention it. They can at least run some preliminary blood work to test your progesterone, testosterone, etc. Make sure everything is in sync.

Thanks ladies! I will probably schedule the pap in about a month. I called my insurance and they said it is covered even though it has been slightly less than 1 year since the last one.

I think I will feel better even if I just tell her my concerns and she says to wait a little bit. I don't feel like I will be okay with waiting a full year of TTC since my loss (October) but sometime in between now and then I'd like to start testing. Technically we "started" TTC in June but I don't know if that counts since I did get pregnant.

My progesterone was low when I was pregnant so she did say I can have the progesterone supplements again when I get pregnant. I could take then while TTC but I don't think they are really needed since my LP seems to be doing okay on it's own. Plus taking it gives me crazy pregochondria.

Anyway, Dh is worried that "drs like to make money" and that she is going to want to do exploratory surgery on me. This is because I was having symptoms of pain after sex quite awhile ago and my previous dr wanted to do a lap to check for endo, which I declined. The pain went away after I got off birth control.

Um, sorry for the novel. Anyway, it makes me happier to feel like I have a game plan!

Good for you. I'm rooting for you that you won't need all them tests and you'll get a BFP, Shannon.

I agree with everyone else. How long were you trying before you had a mc?? I think you should take advantage of your appt. If you don't you may regret it.

I have an appt next week april 7 for pap smear plus ttc discussion. Just call and say you have been TTC for x months and you'd like to talk about it with doctor while pap smear appt... the secretary told me they might do bloodwork on me.. like Toni said.
good luck!
