Well girls, I know none of us are doctors, but I was wondering what you girls thought about my personal situation. I was doing some more research on the Internet today, and I do have a consultation appointment with a new doctor on April 18th. My research started today because DH and I had a wonderful, heartwarming conversation today about TTC. He made the comment that he doesn't understand why it has taken us sooo long to get pregnant. We have never been pregnant. He also said that alot of our friends have gone to the doctor's and put on medication and boom, they've gotten pregnant. So all this got me to thinking, thus the research.
I don't know what to do in my situation, or if meds would even be prescribed. I had my hormonal bloodwork completed...all normal. DH had SA....normal. I chart, and show a thermal shift...ovulation, right? But, what confuses the both of us is how irregular my cycles are, with ovulation as early as CD 17 and as late as CD25.....this makes my cycles irregular, right????? My luteal phase is usually 13 - 16 days long, which seems pretty normal.
So, back to my research, they said meds may be prescribed for irregular cycles. Am I considered irregular? Also, they said that fertility drugs, like clomid, should only be used for a max of 12 cycles in a lifetime. Therefore, if it is prescribed for irregular cycles, it should only be done after an HSG is completed to show no blockages.
So, what I'm thinking is that I should request an HSG first off. Then possibly meds. What do you girls think? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. DH and I have been having unprotected sex for over 4 years now, closer to 5. We have been actively TTC for over 2 years. And, I'm feeling the age factor as well. I'll be 32 in July.
Sorry so long. I am just really looking for answers. Thanks girls!!! And if you read this in its entirety, bless you!

I would talk to your doctor and explain everything to him. If ya'll have been trying for that long and absolutely nothing has happened yet then something is not right. I'd print off your charts, take them with you and see what the doc has to say.

i would print off your charts when you go, so the dr sees first hand what your cycles are like. they may not be irregular. everyones body is different. and your dr will be able to know for sure if it is or not.
I know i have a few friends that have that as well, and we put on clomid, and bingo bango they were pregnant after a couple of months. So hun, i would talk to your dr about all the options and just go from there. I hope he gives you some answers!

Thanks girls. I know April 18 isn't that far off, but I am just anxious to know what can be done. I didn't know if anybody was in the same situation or knew somebody that was. Thanks again....much appreciated.

I read most of Taking Charge of Your Fertility yesterday. It came highly recommended from many women on this board. A lot of what the book says I had already picked up here, but it's a great book. I highly suggest you get a copy from the library or book store. I think it would be as helpful for you as it is for me.
I always say my cycles are irregular because they can be 30 to 56 days, but it's very rare to be on the high side of that. Looking back, I think my really long cycles have always been caused by something stressful in my life delaying ovulation. As I wasn't temping this past year during my few long cycles I don't know that for sure, but I know that my grandmother died at the beginning of my first long cycle.
The book points out that cycles are regular as long as they are usually between 28 and 36 days and as long as your LP stays around the same length each month. If you jump around drastically in the number for cycle days each month, then you may have irregular cycles.
I do think it's worth talking to your doctor, but I also think it's worth really educating your self and doctors want things to be convenient for their schedules not necessarily for your cycle schedule.
The reason they don't want to prescribe clomid too many times is that it may cause cervical cancer later on in life. It has some side effects that can make getting pregnant harder, i.e. drying up EWCM. It works wonders for some women, but others are put on it who don't really need it.
For me, the book basically assembled the knowledge I had into a story. It makes thing more understandable and I'm much more confident that DH and I will have a BFP very soon as long as I really pay attention to everything my body is doing.

Your cycles sounds long, but not crazy long. But who knows, maybe the Clomid would make you ovulate soon and make things more regular?
Sounds like Celry gave you some good info about TCOYF too. I haven't read the whole book but it does have some useful info in it.
