years ago today?

I was a senior in high school. I had been to my 1st and 2nd period classes(Physics and Driver's Ed) and had not heard anything. I had just gotten into my 3rd period class and a classmate(also a senior) came in. He had just gotten to campus(took college classes for dual credit) and told us what had happened. We were like you are joking, well we finally thought he might be serious and then our teacher came in and turned on the TV. We sat back in complete and utter shock and fear. Our high school was right on a major interstate. The rest of the day our school was on lockdown, teachers had to stand at the doors and watch us walk to classes that were outside, we couldn't sit in the courtyard/picnic area during lunch. I also had a college night class for dual credit, and I remember the teacher basically took role and sent us home.

I will never forget the fear and terror I felt from the attacks. Today and everyday I pray for our service men and women who protect and defend us. And today I say an extra prayer for those who lost loved ones on 9-11-01..

I was at home (I was 20 when it happened). I came into the kitchen & my sister told me the Pentagon had been bombed (she hadn't found out it was a plane). I told her she had to have been joking & went & turned on the TV and saw the footage of the plane hitting the second tower on the news... A friend of mine's 21st birthday was on that day, too.

Even today watching the footage on TV is difficult & makes me tear up. I know that I'll never forget that day.

I had just got back from my Honeymoon the day before. I woke up to the radio and was really confused. Didn't figure out what was going on until I got into work and saw the tv.

I was a senior in college in upstate New York. I didn't know about it until right before the 2nd plane hit b/c I was getting ready for class, then I saw the footage in my economics class. The prof didn't know anything and then some kid piped up and he turned on his laptop to the big screen. People were flipping out- so many kids were from right near the city and had relatives that worked in Manhattan. By the time I even left that classroom, a blood drive had been set up in our computer center and the line stretched SO LONG for people to give blood.

The images that haunt me the most are the people throwing themselves out of the burning building. The desperation and pain they must have felt had to be overwhelming

I was 19 and in first year University majoring in Criminology. I lived at my parents' and we were having breakfast and getting ready for school when my Dad's boss called and told us to turn on the TV. It was just after the first tower was hit and we watched the 2nd one get hit...I didn't even really believe it was real at first. It was just so shocking.
I did go to school that day. We talked a lot about it in my classes and had a moment of silence. One of my classes ended up being cancelled after 15 mins because everyone was pretty emotional...it was such a horrible day.

Me too. I still get sick to the stomach when I think about it.

I was in a College math class when we heard. The teacher turned on the TV in our class in time too see the second plane hit the building. Class was canceled after that.

I was sitting in Health assessment class in nursing school. A guy who was in the reserves came in, interrupted class and told us a plane hit the WTC. The instructor was irritated and said "Thank you for interrupting my class for that". We had no idea at the time it was such a big thing...we all thought it was an accident at the time. I remember sitting in the student center and watching the first tower fall. It was so sickening...I remember getting physically sick watching the footage.

I was teaching 2nd grade. The principal came over the intercom to announce we would have indoor recess due to pesticides being applied to the playground grass. Another teacher came in soon after & told me what had really happened & the indoor recess announcement was b/c the school was on lockdown because we were waiting for official news to get some sort of idea of what the whole story was. We didn't want to students in hysteria, so we were not allowed to talk about it, but we were all trying to log into computers to get updates. Parents were rushing to the school to pick up their kids in a total panic. We had to break the lockdown rules b/c parents were going absolutely ballistic (some actually got violent) demanding to be let into the school to take their kids.
