so im a little sad :/
i went to my WIC appt today and talked with one of the ladys who work there, and we were talking about nursing.
she asked if i was still nursing since my child since he now reached age 1.
i said yes.(does not get formula).
and she told me that it is okay to switch on over to whole milk.
that their intestines can handle milk now..
so i said.. "ok so i can breastfeed and give milk?" and she basically was saying that by nursing, its really not doing anything.that milk would be better now to give.
i wanted to cry. because i have heard that before. i think when he was 6-9months...my family physican told me they only fully benefit off breastmilk up to 3months.
although its great to nurse for 12 months i am very proud of myself.
my goal was 6months with NO formula but at 5months i did FF for about a month and stopped.
so many struggles and hard times but i did it.
i think i will try the whole milk during the day and at night nurse, since its easier.
she also told me if i stop nursing and if my son wants to nurse like a month later, i will auctually produce again.which is pretty cool.
not sure if i am going to stop now,i guess it all depends on how he does with the milk.
definitly makes me sad knowing my babys getting bigger.i know no one can tell you how to feed your baby, but BF was and IS the best thing i ever did for my geep<3
thanks for reading!

I think bfing for the whole year is great! It can definitely be a struggle at times, but way to push through:]
Although I do not agree with what the lady said about bfing not doing anything for your baby now and that cows milk is better. In fact this is from kellymom.com, Your milk is still an important part of baby's diet and will offer him many benefits (nutritionally, immunilogically and emotionally).
I recommend this website it has a lot of great information, kellymom.com :: Nutrition for Nursing Toddlers
It is a bitter sweet time knowing their growing up and won't need to nurse as often for this main source of nutrition.

I also disagree with the WIC lady. I don't know what their issue is with when babies turn 12 months that they suddenly need to be on whole milk and sippy cups. (Sorry, just had some lady from the health dept who came out for Caleb's lead stuff give me crap about it, so I'm still irritated)
The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for 2 years. Not only is there still nutritional value, but the bonding/psychological benefits are huge. Don't let this woman talk you into weaning if you guys aren't ready.
I wish Caleb still nursed...my other kidsnursed for over 18 months. They would get 3 meals, snacks and whole milk with meals. But they would still nurse before nap/bedtime and here and there throughout the day (and night sometimes).
I applaud you for sticking it out for a year! A huge milestone, but don't let that woman talk you into weaning. There ARE benefits!!

Way to go!
We're still nursing several times a day here - I'm going for a while still because at this point it's her only comfort. And I just can't bear to take that away from her.

Congrats for making it a year!
I agree with the PPs - you do NOT have to stop at 1 year, there ARE still benefits for nursing past then, so do what works for you. The Kelly Mom website is a really great resource.

Just because a baby is a year old doesn't mean they need cow's milk. We are the only species that drinks milk after infancy. Don't listen to them. It's going to benefit him it still has all your antibodies in it for him and is still great for bonding time.
You can give him milk if you want but, if you don't want to stop nursing then don't. Boob time is special time for mommy and child.

Congrats on BFing for a year!
I completely disagree with the WIC lady. She's not an expert on BFing. I plan to BF as long as Aiden wants it because I know he IS getting nutrition from it. Right now I don't plan to give Aiden cow's milk. I thought about it, but he's not a baby cow. He is able to digest and get more nutrition out of my milk than he ever will out of cow's milk.

For you and baby to get the full benefits of BFing the WHO recommends BFing till 24m (or longer).
Don't give up on nursing just b/c some lady at the WIC office told you to. Keep going until you or Prince feel it is time to stop.

i think there's nothign wrong with still BFing i've always heard up to 2 is great for them. I personally don't know how far past 18 months i'd want to go. My goal is to make it a year next time. We made it to 10.5 months before my milk dried up...who knows though, as much as tyler loves boobs he may pick it back up when emily gets here and if he wants to, i might let him.
