I'm old fashioned too and never had a TV in my room. I can't imagine putting one in my kids' rooms. I'm totally fine with other people doing it with their kids but I just think if I did it with mine, they'd watch TV all day. We currently have a limit on how much TV Ashton can watch in a day (because if I didn't, he'd be in front of it all day) and when enough's enough then we do puzzles and crafts and stuff. Maybe one day when the kids are bigger and I trust them not to sit in front of it all day long, they can have them in their rooms. I have considered getting a portable DVD player and letting Ashton watch the occasional DVD in his room.

My DH picked up a tv the other day from a neighbor who was getting rid of it (yes, he does have hoarder tendencies, as we have 3 tvs not in use, just sitting in various places...garage, computer room, basement) and his thought was he's put tvs in the kids room. Not Calebs, but the older kids. I told him no, guess I'm old fashioned because I never had a tv in my room. So it got me thinking...maybe I'm old fashioned and when would I be comfortable letting them have a tv in their room. Sooo...
Will you let your LO have a tv in their room?
If so, what age? or do they now?
If not, why?

and.. just to add... i will not be putting a gaming system in his room, contrary to what my dh might think.

That's dh's thought...he thought it'd be a good idea to let the boys have the Wii upstairs in their room. Um, no way! They'd be up there playing all day long!

I grew up with a tv in my room so I dont really mind if he has a tv in his room but right now he has no need for it. He actually has a tv in his room but it isnt even plugged in and we dont use it. Maybe when he gets older but not right now.

We had a TV in every room when I was growing up and they were always on - not necessarily always watched, but always on. We have a game room for the boys with a Wii and PS3 (that's more for us) and they can watch stuff in there. MAAAAYYYYBE when they're in high school, but not when they're young.

I grew up with a tv in every room in the house as well. And as a teenager, I had a computer in my room but I also bought the computer and the stand for it myself... I don't think I'll have a problem with Ryder having a computer or tv in his room. Not til he's old enough to think to ask for one himself though. Gaming systems I could go either way. Since I know Mike and I plan on having more kids, for all I know we could have 2 or 3 more kids that will all want to play too. So it'd be logical to have it in the living room/ family room and it'd be fun to watch the kids play against each other or their friends for a little while. However, I know Mike is OBSESSED with soccer and he never misses the "important" games, so then the living room becomes a bad idea cause then the kids would never be able to use them! Lol. So we will see when he's older I guess. There will definitely be time limits for how long they can play/ watch tv each week... so if they want to spend all the time at once on a Friday or Saturday night when they can sleep in the next day, that's their choice but then they don't get to play during the week. If they want to spread it out throughout the week and play after hw is done, and not so much on the weekends, that's also their choice. But it will not become something that interferes with family time or we'll get rid of it. The problem I see with my lil cousins and older kids that are school aged at work are the DS type systems that can go with them anywhere. They are ALWAYS on those things!!!

Cohen is 3 and has a TV in his room. Most nights he'll watch a movie until he falls asleep and then I go in there and shut it off. It's a comfort thing for him, he's worse then Leala with getting up in the middle of the night if he doesn't have something going. We've tried radio, crib toys that go for 15 mins and nothing helps him sleep like the TV going. I have been the same way all my life too. I sleep better with the nice and the lights from the TV, even as a baby I slept in the living room with the TV going.
Leala we'll see if she's the same way or not. Right now she seems to be fine though. So for her probably not.
NO gaming systems in their rooms. We dont have one period as it is now, I don't even want to start him with that until way later. Like school when he learns it from other kids and earns the privilege to own one.

Avry has one in his room although it's broken and we or 'Santa' will be getting him a new one One with a dvd player in it perhaps(flat screen---19in or so). It won't be hooked up to Dish so he will only be able to watch movies on it.

We have a tv in Peytons room right now but she doesnt use it. Its for guests since her room is a guest room also. Or when my friends with older kids come over. When we move into a bigger place she wont have a tv in her room. She watches maybe an hour or so of tv a week as it is now. We both agree we didnt want her becoming dependent on the tv to sleep, or watching it too much. When shes older, maybe high school age we'll allow it.

I already said no to the TV in Logan's room. DH seems to think it is necessary since he works for DirecTV that we put a TV in every single room, but I am against it. We only had one TV in our house growing up, and we never had cable or anything, so we only got like 5 channels. Now that we do have DirecTV DH can sit in front of the TV for hours and become totally unresponsive as he watches...I don't need my child ignoring me like that all the time too! I don't really mind him having a computer when he gets older, but there's isn't any reason for him to have his own computer until A) He earns it, and B) he actually needs it for school and stuff.
On the other hand, we have always planned on giving Logan a play room area where he would have a TV and stuff for during the day. I've just never wanted one in his room or our room because I know DH would never sleep, and my little brother had a TV in his room when we were younger and was always getting up in the middle of the night to watch it in secret.

Lol...DH and I both work for a large cable company. Prior to me working there, I had no TV and didn't really care. Now we get absolutely everything so I know how that is! I once told DH that he watches too much TV and he was like "I watch sports...that doesn't count"...lol. It's better now though cuz he mostly watches after the kids are in bed.
